Sure he did. People were certainly talking about it at the time, which basically translates to him having the potential.

Disagree. People say it about a lot of boxers over time, which goes to show how often people are wrong. Myself included.

Whilst i didn't overly think Tyson had the potential for best fighter ever, at one point i would not have been surprised if he finished on top of the heavyweight pile. I was wrong.

Correct. They were saying that about Liston, Foreman and Tyson. Premature in all 3 cases.

I remember not only hearing talk about him as the greatest heavyweight ever but also the greatest fighter of all time. Iron Mike wasn't just beating guys who had never even tasted the canvas, but completely obliterating them and knocking them into tomorrowland!

We all were. But name a better run than Tyson going 37-0. Who do you think had a better run than that?

In regards to the thread, I like Joe Louis and Muhammad Ali at heavyweight and Robinson, Greb and Armstrong overall.

Firstly Tyson fought only 6 unbeaten men in that 37 fight run. Spain, Alderson, and Canady don't count. Biggs was a 15 fight novice, Spinks had campaigned at Light Heavy for most of his career and Tucker made him look pretty ordinary, and never looked like going over.

The potential to be the greatest fighter EVER. What a crock of sh!t. Have you even watched guys like SRR, and Henry Armstrong?

Absolutely, Ali sure has the first two covered. Incredible that he beat not one but two fighters who had garnered a reputation of invincibility.

    Remember it well.

It was a fantastic run for sure and gave heavyweight boxing (and boxing on the whole) a huge lift just when it was needed.
