Who was the hardest to hit with clean punches?

 

From what I've seen, Pep seemed to have taken more chances than the others, so was a bit more susceptible to return fire.

How many times in their primes were the other three actually hit flush with clean punches?

 

Although all four were defensive geniuses, like the thread implies, it's why I especially enjoy watching Locche,...he didn't take as many chances offensively, i.e., commit himself to offense, so he was the hardest to hit, IMO, and was so much fun to watch. Locche-Fuji is in particular, a masterpiece of defensive artistry. He beat poor Fuji into submission through sheer frustration...and almost total inability to land anything on Locche.

 

Definitely Locche, the way he just stood stationary with his hands down by his side and avoided punches was just amazing.

Pea's southpaw stance only complicated matters for his opponents.

 

Still haven't voted but it occurred to me-- wasn't Pea actually hit with more clean punches than Mayweather?

 

Maybe, he clowned more and left himself open a bit more often. But part of the reason for you thinking that may be that more years has passed since Pea fought, so we mostly remember his key fights, were he fought better opponents, and the later parts of his career. In 20 years, people will probably watch and talk about Mayweathers fights against, say, DLH, Pac, Cotto, Mosley and maybe Alvarez and Maidana. Just looking at these fights he will still seem great, but perhaps less impossible to hit than he did against the likes of Berto.

I don’t know who was harder to hit, but I do know that they both seemed ”unhittable” against second tier opposition.

Locche almost always fought in Argentina. His competition wasn't as good as the others on the list, and he had his share of close fights.

Did he ever beat a top ranked USA or UK based fighter?

 

Whitaker definitely clowned more and left himself more open than Mayweather, but that just makes him less impossible to hit.

And Mayweather's compubox stats were pretty amazing against even his best opponents, from what I recall.

Tell that to Diosbelys... Hurtado possibly caught Whitaker with more clean, flush, hard punches in one fight than Mayweather took in his entire career.
