Ever time I hear a story about Berbick it usually is bizarre and full of lies. He once claimed that Larry Holmes set up his divorce. Despite his best days were behind him in 1999 he claimed that he would be getting a title shot against the winner of Lewis vs Holyfield.

Berbick had a few screws loose. I don't know if he was just plain stupid or borderline mentally unstable. Career wise it is pretty amazing what he accomplished with his skill set. He got a fight with Tate at just the right time, with Tate coming off the crushing Weaver loss in just 3 months. His first loss was by KO to Mercado I think, and his loss to S. T. Gordon on national TV was an indication of how mentally unbalanced the guy was. He came back from the Gordon debacle to right his career, winning a belt.

He spent time ministering prisoners only to become one himself, I believe due to raping his baby sitter.

I've read some dubious stories on the man. Canada apparently booted him from the country. He was a wife beater, ****** and had some serious family issues which led to his death. The word on the street back in 2006 was that some relatives in Jamaica beat him to death over some land dispute. I'm no doctor and nor have I ever encountered Trevor Berbick, but the numerous reports suggests there was some sort of mental illness there.

Decent fighter, caught Thomas, Page, and Tate at the right time. Also would like to see his fight with Blood Green, heard that was a tight one.

I guess I thought Holmes was far less merciful than Berbick. Interesting as i wonder who Tyson showed mercy to.

Berbick could fight .. he not only beat Tate, he beat up Greg Page, he went a tough 15 w a prime Holmes giving Larry a decent fight, he beat a prime Pinklon Thomas ... he was a nut but as a fighter he was like a Bonavena type, very strong, decent puncher, good chin, would maul and grind you down ..
