How did you score Bowe vs. Holyfield 2?

I honestly can't see how people scored this a draw. No matter how many times I watch it, I can't come back with a draw

I thought the decision was right

I think Holyfield outworked Bowe.

I had 115-113.

I don't think Bowe was in tip top shape, at least not the shape he was in for the first fight.

I can still picture the scene as my buddy and I watching from a bar that had bought the PPV. Fan man landing in the ring was truly a "twighlight zone" moment.

 

I thought Bowe won.

Holyfield clearly fought better than he did in fight one, when he was almost stopped, but I didn't think Bowe lost.

In fact, if you go back and look at the punch stats, Bowe OUTLANDED Holyfield by 100 punches.

He didn't throw 100 more punches, he LANDED 100 more punches.

And he was the reigning champ. And one round was interrupted for nearly a half hour ... and they continued it and judges were expected to score it. And Bowe's pregnant wife passed out during the delay and had to be carried out.

Through it all, Bowe stood toe-to-toe with Evander and hit Holyfield 100 more times than Evander hit him.

And they gave it to Holyfield.

You can count the number of fights on a couple fingers where the reigning champ outlanded the challenger by 100 punches and they gave it to the challenger.

 

But fights are scored round by round, not according to (imperfect) aggregate statistics. I don't see how Bowe won more rounds than Holyfield.

 

Some fights don't have 100 landed punches total by one guy.

Bowe landed 100 MORE than Evander.

100 additional punches landed isn't "imperfect." It's a lot of punches to be wrong about.

Bowe nearly stopped Evander in the first fight and won a clear decision. Bowe did stop Holyfield in the third fight.

Their second fight was the closest of the three ... but Bowe didn't lose that fight.

It was really exciting to see them trade like they did over 12. And Evander did alot better in that one than the other two, but that doesn't mean he deserved the nod.

Seemed like he got the benefit of the doubt when it was a close round.

 

But it's like the announcer Gil Clancy said early on---Evander's punches were moving Bowe. In the first fight, he'd land but could not move the guy. The 2nd bout, just moving him and making Bowe re-set those feet meant Evander could be far more effective with those follow-ups. And he sure was with punches 2/3/4.

I still cannot comprehend why Futch could never ever get Bowe to improve on that defense. With that size advantage over Holyfield, he should have been slippery. Or rode punches. Or slid. Or had better radar for the incoming.
It must have been incredibly frustrating & made things so so hard.

 

If remember correctly, Bowe was the busier fighter. But Holyfield was landing the more eye catching punches.

 

Holyfield was also stealing rounds with flurries in the last 30 seconds. His corner would yell 30 and at the 10 second warning Holy would really come on that's what led to many after the bell exchanges not just in this fight but in many of Evanders fights. It's a smart tactic Sugar Ray Leonard used to do it as well.. Evander always wanted to get the last shot in, something in his hit me I'll hit you back mentality, that and the no respect thing and the blown up Cruiserweight thing always stuck with him.. Styles make fights and Bowe was a tough out for Evander but Bowe of fight 1 or 2 for that matter is a beast h2h. We always hear the Bowe wasn't in his best form argument for fight 2, well he certainly was fighting hard all the way thru and honestly looked about like he usually did physically with the exception of when he was much younger or in fight number one, but he pretty much looked as good physically in fight #2 vs Evander as he ever would for the remainder of his career which he of course went on to score many other impressive victories and was thought to be the best heavy in the world by many at different times during the era after the second Holyfield fight..

Holyfield was still in his prime. Bowe was a bad style for him though. Holyfield started slowing down in 95. He was never the same after Moorer 1.

 

no, it is a terrible comment,very ignorant like hell,evander was in his peak in 90-91 ,you can argue that he was in his prime in 92 but no ****ing way in 93-94

 

Emanuel Steward who worked briefly with Holyfield for 2 fights had changed his style he's not past his best in 93 he has clearly a different style.

 

It was all Holy until the fan man entered the ring. Bowe had a nice rest and came on a bit making it closer than it should have been.
