I agree, and if I remember the fight correctly, gave a fairly decent account of himself against Ray Mercer until he was floored with what I always thought was not a fully connecting punch.

Uppercut bust Francos conk was way ahead on the cards at the time .Mercer admitted he needed a Ko to win.damiani was.a fighter that interested me at the time a fight with Bruno or mason for the European.title would have been a good fight.he didn't look very dangerous bit of a belly etc but could fight I think people tended to underrate him. bad move.

Yeah, caught him on the nose. Not watched the fight in years, got it on favourites on a folder somewhere. Be good to watch it again. Big Frank may have been too much for him, and I don't think Gary Mason would have been too interested in a match with him. And yes, he always looked like a pro-wrestler rather than a boxer to me.

Pick em. The only two things I'm convinced of are that Chagaev wouldn't get knocked out and Damiani would be up on the cards after four rounds.

Damiani via clear decision as long as he kept his protruding probosis out of harms way.

Never seen much to impress from Chagaev

Not really impressed by either..I think Sultan Ibragimov beats them both.

I'm going with Damiani by decision. He had a bit more reach, slightly better skills, and more snap to his shots.. He wasn't a terribly durable fighter as Mercer and McCall showed us, but he was also past prime for both of those fights, and Chagaev wasn't a big hitter or very aggressive to take advantage of this.

Disagree about power. Chagaev hit harder than Damiani.

Agreed. It's a pity Ibragimov quit the game so young.

He actually had better tools than Povetkin.

I'd take Chagaev over Damiani via come from behind TKO.

I feel like Damiani would have just a bit too much for Chagaev and take a close decision.
