Banned substance is the quote but no confirmation yet,Test was done by our testers here before the team travelled apparently, but as said nothing confirmed yet....
Wasn't he sent home from turkey? He isn't the first and e won't be the last boxer to misbehave. Maybe if the substance was not performance enhancing he might be allowed box??? Very sad though.
So O Reilly will more than likely take another test. Its a shame for the guy but he might end up losing out on fighting in Rio all that hard work for **** all it seems. Hope his B sample comes back clear.
This is red tape gone too far. As long as it's not a PED leave him box I say. Even if he say smoked a joint months Ago in Ireland it won't in ,,A,NY WAY help his performance in Rio. You shouldn't be banned from any event unless what you took affects your performance in that event. This is not the case here ....at least it looks that way at this stage.
If he gets thrown out hes only got himself to blame. Wasnt carrying an injury recently, might have taken something for that.
But surely if it doesn't affect his performance in Rio then It shouldnt affect his participation in Rio?
Yep Murphy, he got a draw from Heaven, Bronze almost guaranteed, damn. feel sorry for him-and us!-a great talent. Hopes he's ok.
Absolutely gutted about Reilly. Been a huge fan of him for a long time. IMO he's the most entertaining fighter to watch on the whole team. I love his unpredictability (in the ring!!!) Unfortunately it seems his antics have caught up with him. Twice he was in trouble with Irish teams (once before the European youths and then of course Turkey more recently) but it's that raw, mad streak which sort of endeared him to me, I won't lie! He's like a throwback of sorts.. Fears no opponent (regardless of reputation) as he showed in the '14 senior final vs O'Neill. I still to this day believe that Quigley is a lucky man he chose not to enter those seniors. I've made the point before, but the fashion in which he dismantled O'Neill that night suggested to me that he would have beaten Quigley too (remember JQ only beat O'Neill on countback in the '13 seniors before going on his winning streak to Euro gold and World silver). Beating Alimkhanuly in last years worlds was up there with the biggest wins in Irish amateur history for me! After Alimkhanuly beat Quigley in the '13 world final he was pegged as the next GGG! Sorry for going on a bit of a tangent... Just very disappointed about the whole situation.
We need to watch getting caught up in the media frenzy here. Wait for the full facts. Don't rush to judgement. We need to know.... 1. Did he do something wrong? 2. If he did, how serious was his offence? Then ...and only then....should he be punished. And if he is punished the punishment must fit the crime. It must fit the crime.
Also on a very bad note Steve Ormonde missed weight by a big margin 4 pounds i think came back 2 hours later 6 pounds heavier again, Fight is off...:huh:roll:
sounds like a 5 euro joint is going to cost him a huge pro signing on fee if he could have got a gold medal. do i have sympathy / not really / we all know if you drink and then drive / and then get caught / tough / if you take recreational drugs when you know you might be tested and banned as a result who can he blame.
