Jaysus dude, 10k to fight Ward is not enough money. :-( I'm wondering if it would cover the hospital bills.

I bet you vote straight D across the board because you clearly don't know how money works.

10% to trainer (seems to be the consensus)
5% or a flat fee [search Re: how much do corner men (cutman, 2nd assistant) make?]
20-25% to the manager [search Re: I am a boxing manager: if you have questions about the boxing biz, ask!]

    That's ~35% gone off the top. ($10,500).

That leaves $19,500 to Brand before taxes (assuming no expenses for travel, meals, medical expenses)

Federal taxes: he'll fall into the 15% tax bracket. (Check out: https://www.nerdwallet.com/blog/taxes/federal-income-tax-brackets/ ) to know that I'm not making this up.

922.50 to cover the 10% bracket which leaves 18,577 in the 15% bracket totaling 2,786. Add them and you get $3708 in Fed taxes.

This leaves $15,792 to brand.....But wait! There's more!

That money was earned in California so they gotta get their cut. (http://www.bankrate.com/finance/taxes/state-taxes-california.aspx)

He falls into the 2% bracket assuming California allows the deduction of Fed taxes paid.

1% (78.50) on the first 7,850 of income. That leaves $7,942 taxed at a rate of 2% (158.84)

So, the "wonderful" state of california gets $237.

This leaves $15,555 to Brand before the money even leaves the country!

As Brand lives in Columbia he'll also have the privilege to pay their taxes.

Plus, he gets to pay a fee needing to exchange his US dollars into Columbian Pesos. Then, when he withdraws the money from an ATM there is then a 0.4% Columbian National tax on each ATM withdrawal. He's also going to need a pretty friggin expensive accountant who knows how to deal with international taxes with lots of complicated deductions and expenses.

He's basically making nothing for this fight.

So should Ward's team calculate all this for them and advise them to fight for more money? I don't understand why you would post this.. If I wanted to fight you and said I'll fight for $42.64, how is it your job to make sure I get paid enough to take care of my business?

    Can you define "ripping off"??

Literally every last person who pays to go see this fight is paying to watch Ward.

Pretty much every who tunes into HBO to watch this fight is doing so to see Ward.

    What should the breakdown be?

How much do YOU think Brand should be paid?

30k is disgraceful. He'll be lucky to be left with 10 after costs.

Ward is an excellent negotiator!!! It's a dog eat dog world and Ward just showed Brand where his place is in the big scheme of things! Brand accepted because he knows his time is short and won't be getting any lucrative offers anytime soon, especially if he loses! If he does win he'll get offered 100K and to get whopped up on and sent back home with a big lump of money in his pocket and nothing but time to mess with all them honey's! Could be worse for the dude.

To those that think 30k is too low, please state what you think he should have got and why.
