N'Dam is no joke. He was a good amateur and beat a lot of good fighters in the pros to become a legit world contender. He lost 3-0 to Borges.

 

He's a middleweight but he's competing at 178 lbs.

None of the pros are used to same day weigh ins.

 

most 178lb olympic fighters would probably be able to make middleweight in the pros though, it's not like he's at a disadvantage.

 

That's why he's competing at 178lbs buddy. Same day weigh ins are not a difficult thing when you're a middleweight fighting at 178!

NDam got bossed up by Lemmy in one of the most lopsided fights I've ever seen, I don't think anybody expected him to go far in the amateurs.

Any top level amateur owns him and Lemmy as well no matter what rules they're using. They call it Bumland for a reason.

Surprised the guy who sonned Shoe didn't qualify though.

 

Everyone expected him to go far in the amateurs and slaughter everyone because he's an experienced pro with good amateur experience, against amateurs.

He got to contender level twice with two belts. Had a notably competitive fight with Quillin (other than the knockdowns - he gets knocked down SO easily). The Lemieux fight wasn't lopsided....N'Dam simply gets knocked down easily but never knocked out (like Salido).

 

All I know is that CST80 called Brook a "slick fighter" and that's some pure bull****.

Because of the weight situation he is competing effectively two divisions above his natural one.

All things being equal, they aren't. This isn't like proof that amateurs beat pros their own size.

 

If the amateurs in his amateur division turn pro, they too could be fighting at middleweight. Ruenroeng is fighting at a higher weight class too, because in the pros, they cut weight disgustingly.

It's strange, it's like as if people are getting the impression that N'Dam is cutting to 160 in the amateurs or something, he's not. He's strong.

 

You're missing the point. There's a difference between a single 24-hour weigh in a few times a year, and REMAINING on weight over the course of several weeks. Amateurs who compete year-round in international tourneys are acclimated to that. Pros aren't, it's a system shock for them.

He is fighting at or near his walking around weignt. His opponents in terms pros would be light heavies or cruisers.

 

But everyone else is remaining on weight, and it's a same day weigh in so you don't cut much weight at all.
Also, when you're going for a major amateur boxing tournament, you're having to maintain at that weight...just like in training camp, you're having to maintain at a certain weight and even move down in weight further.
It all evens out.

Hassan probably couldn't maintain 160 on the nose for the duration of the Olympics, nor could most pros maintain their official weight over that long. It just isn't what they're used to. It completely disadvantages them against amateurs accustomed to this way of doing it and forces them to fight naturally bigger men to guarantee not missing weight.

Never in the pros do you have to plateau on a specific weight (on the nose) for more than a couple of days..in many cases, literally just one day.
