Joshua currently has an FFMI of 26.5 at an estimated 10% bodyfat. The uppermost natural limit is 25. This is a number that has extensive scientific backing behind it. For Joshua to have an FFMI in the natural region he'd either have to be above 16% bodyfat or lose about 15lbs of lean muscle, which would put him around 230lbs. Even then that's pushing it.
Not a smoking gun. FFMI is only reliable with the 25 rule for bodybuilding content shape (5% bodyfat). Not above. All professional natural powerlifters clocking in with FFMI's > 28, 29 even 30 and no they're not on steroids. Here's the guidelines from FFMI studies: ■ 22 : excellent ■ 23 25: superior ■ 26 27: scores considered suspicious but still attainable naturally Also, AJ is not even close to 5% in bodyfat. No athlete is as its not conducive to any sort of cardiovascular activity. A bodybuilder in final contest shape could barely survive a 3 x 3 minute rounds of light cardio let alone 12. Just like BMI flags anyone athletic with a bit of muscle mass as grossly overweight. You can't blindly apply these metrics.
I don't think there is an intelligent, critical thinking person on the planet who believes Joshua is a clean athlete. The fact apropos of nothing his Dad blurrted out 'my son doesn't take steroids' as the opening line of his paternal celebratory speech when AJ won the British title closes the case. It's as obvious, to me, as a WWE Wrestler. And his present holiday/break could be viewed by more cynical and informed people than me as a 'cycle camp'. I just think he's #StayingHumble despite getting visibly bigger on holiday.
You don't understand sports, genetics, or math. The likelihood of a random performance that good is 1 in 1.6 billion. The likelihood of that performance with an institutional edge, with superior financing, great coaching, an advancement in technique, with scouting, large talent pools, or cheating narrows those odds. Do you really think that sports is just genetics? There are economic and strategic reasons why the US has won more medals than anyone at the Olympics. Cuba wins boxing medals completely out of proportion to their population because, among other advantages, they have a great amateur boxing program. Indian people don't have bad genetics for athletics just because they don't win a lot of medals at the games. It's more likely they have bad economic problems or don't play the same games as we do.
I am firmly in the Anthony Joshua is juicing camp. He reminds me of Alistair Overeem, the mma/kickboxing star, who was roiding his ***** off for years and steadfastly denied it. Here's a compilation of pics showing his physique from 2003 where he's a normal athlete to 2008 where he's a hulking monster. http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii224/9ho1oha1/mma/Overeem-Timeline.jpg People are capable of amazing stuff naturally though. I wouldn't trust anybody recently to prove that point in an age of easily accessible drugs. But you can look back at the late nineteenth century strongmen/bodybuilders like Eugen Sandow or George Hackenschmidt and see some pretty impressive musculature. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugen_Sandow https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Hackenschmidt I've already posted pics of Young Peter Jackson and Battling Siki from the early 1900s. But other impressive guys would include early photos of Jack Johnson http://www.sportsinblackandwhite.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Jack-Johnson.jpg Sam Mcvey http://coxscorner.tripod.com/Images/backmcvey.jpg Barbados Joe Walcott https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipe...t.jpg/220px-Barbados_Joe_Walcott_portrait.jpg Sam Langford http://www.blackpast.org/files/blackpast_images/langford_sam.jpg Henry Armstrong https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e8/Henry_Armstrong.jpg I know some people were saying that tall guys like Joshua who are 6'6" have an even harder time putting on that kind of muscle mass. While I can't find anybody before the 1930s who fits that requirement, there were a few 6'1" heavyweights who were pretty well developed. Hank Griffin http://www.cyberboxingzone.com/images/132-HankGriffin-2.jpg Peter Jackson http://www.cyberboxingzone.com/images/PeterJackson-Pose.jpg Viro Small http://www.cyberboxingzone.com/images/ViroSmall2.jpg Bob Armstrong http://www.cyberboxingzone.com/images/armstrong-bob-11.jpg Otis Thomas http://boxrec.com/media/images/8/80/Thomas.Otis.jpg But I think the first 6'6" guy who is in really good shape was Primo Carnera. http://cdnimg.visualizeus.com/thumb...,great-045617b8e51408aba8e26bad87895434_h.jpg With that said, I still think that some of the pictures of Anthony Joshua are just beyond the pale and outstrip anything in those photographs.
Yeah. Totally legit, guys.[/QUOTE] Oh my,Froch is a super middleweight/light heavy, that pic is ridiculous and I'm not talking about AJs height. Look Wlad another super heavyweight has taken stuff in his long campaign so if you're following in his footsteps as a super heavyweight why wouldn't you do the same,as mentioned he's not gonna get busted, why the need to defend this s***,it's just normal at this level isn't it?
Yeah good call on Overeem, same with Brock Lesner how many times I'd heard Lesner was a freak of nature blah blah, well yes he may be a freak but he's still roided to the gills, I guess what we're saying then is if they look like Overeem and AJ then they're not natural. Heck I've seen pics of many MMA guys Lesner Inc who have track marks and blown veins, that may be more to do with painkiller habits but if you know what you're looking at you cant miss it?
Oh, I think any athlete who has never harnessed the power of PEDs is an idiot. It's their entire career they're risking by not taking every advantage. And so pretty much all athletes do it, and I don't fault them for it. I do fault idiots who can't recognize how blatantly obvious it is in cases like Joshua.
Yeah absolutely like competing clean is even an option,in the UK we had an amazing Marathon runner in Paula Radcliffe who smashed the record and has even had some very strange blood tests and yet cause it's the lovely Paula she couldn't of possibly have doped,it's far easier to believe a dirt bag like Tyson Fury would dope than believe a lovely gay lad like AJ could do such a thing?
