Miguel Isaac Chilemba Zuze born 05/17/87 6'2 Light Heavyweight with a 24-5-2 10 KO's 1 KO loss record. Born in Blantyre, Malawi and fighting out of Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. Much has been made about Kovalev's performance against Chilemba, which many viewed as lackluster, not I, yet many of the same people had probably never actually seen Chilemba in action, therefore they had no idea what to expect. He did exactly what I was expecting him to do, the only thing that didn't come to pass was Kovalev scoring a late KO victory, although he came close. Chilemba is a spoilerific fighter, he's a rhythm breaker of the highest order, just like Andre Ward, there is no one who has ever gotten in the ring with him that's looked as good as the Krusher did, he's made every opponent to date, even the ones who have beaten him look thoroughly average. His footwork is solid, his jab is top notch, he's very hard to hit clean, he's a counter puncher by nature, fights well in the pocket, has a solid inside game and if he doesn't fear your power he can literally stand right in front of you and outwork you with his stellar combination punching, add to that he has an iron chin. He's a riddle most fighters have a really hard time figuring out, one of his only drawbacks is he's a tad bit featherfisted. An argument can be made that Chilemba has one of the best resumes at Light Heavyweight, he's been the recipient of some pretty shoddy decisions, the reality is he has wins over two very talented Russians Maxim Vlasov and Vasily Lepikhin, okay Russian Denis Grachev, and wins over decent Africans Ngumbo, Gbenga, Merero and Adamu. And now onto his controversial matches, Chilemba beat Bellew in the first match, I had it 7-5 for Chilemba, the commentators were totally biased as usual, the draw wasn't a complete robbery, its better than a loss, regardless Chilemba should have edged it, however in the rematch Bellew won on the scorecards easily, yet I thought that match was a draw, and Chilemba was robbed of that, so count that as two robberies against that douchebag. He fought the undefeated Eleider Alvarez to a draw on the scorecards of many and took another loss, and although I've never seen it, supposedly his draw with Thomas Oosthuizen was a robbery also. There's a legit argument that could be made that going into his match against Kovalev, Chilemba should have been an undefeated fighter. Unfortunately for him, his style isn't the most fan friendly, and he doesn't have the name recognition or pomp and circumstance that many slick fighters have that occasionally causes judges to swing close rounds in their favor. He'll never end up with a very big name on his resume imo, just because he's from the "wrong" country, and due to his lack of power having to rely on judges being on the level in fights abroad. We all know he won't be getting a fair shake as shown multiple times in the past.
Good fighter! Let's hope to see him on Kov-Ward undercard. I was just thinking him vs Yunieski Gonzalez or Shabranskyy would be great. You read my mind CST :yep
Both fights would be great, but I'm not entirely sure he takes either of them, Slava and Yunieski's unorthodox wide looping shots might be an issue for Chilemba.:think But he'll probably make it close nonetheless.
He hardly ever seems to be allowed pick up any momentum. Basically every fight he has is against some undefeated killer...usually in their home country
I gave momentary consideration to calling him The Malawian Cherry Popper, but that just sounded way too skeevy to me.
Says the guy who has no clue who most of GGG and Kovalev's opponents are beforehand, but calls them bums regardless because he's a stupid casual American fan who thinks if a fighter isn't incessantly featured on HBO and Showtime they aren't worth a s***. You love making yourself look like an imbecile don't you?
One of the more underrated resumes in the sport. Guys never turned down a challenge, more or less for several years now. His one sided beat down of the endlessly brave Grachev was a great performance. The type of fluidity I've seen people really glow about when DeMarco's doing it.
Seriously underrated and it goes to show you who is really paying attention to the sport when people think Kovalev is on the slide after beating Chilemba convincingly.
Can Isaac bounce back from his domination at the hands of The Nail and beat Caparello alter this month? This content is protected
