It's opened my eyes massively. In fact I hope it bucks the trend of elite amateurs having loads of wasted fights early in their pro career.
People have been completley disrespectful to Amateur boxing. So may pros came out and said how dangerous this was! Well done to the AMs for mainly keeping quiet and proving 'experts' wrong.
Few guys I know couldn't hack it as an am turned pro and went on to have a decent record picking up titles.
This kinda proves my point which I mentioned before that many "amateurs" in boxing are essentially (semi-) pros already, so pros at the Olympics wasn't as bad an idea as some made it out to be. If some of the actual monsters would have competed we might have gotten a couple of scary moments, but this is different. I had expected they'd do a bit better though.
I think the next Olympics will see a lot more pro fighters given the failure here. It isn't the walkover I genuinely thought it was. The guy who stopped Amnet, he'd have stopped him in a pro ring as well. I think elite pro fighters need to step up sooner n the pro game as they are taking a backwards step atm.
The guy that stopped Amnet doesn't look like he could make Flyweight or superflyweight so don't think the fight would happen in the pro ring. Fight was at 60 kg where Lomachenko competed at and currently fights at 130 lbs.
There is an issue with size in all the pro bouts within the Olympics. That something that they need to seriously consider. Same day and 24 hour weigh in leaves a huge discrepancy.
Amnat doesn't look like he ryhdrates 132 lbs, so in this case I don't think it is just a case of day before weigh ins versus same day, did another Thai qualify at 56 kg?
