We hear plenty about the foulers and cheaters. How about the cleanest boxers? Tiger Flowers, perhaps? I heard he was a devout man. Michael Grant? I need help with this thread.
I remember Michael Grant saying, "God bless you" to his opponent after the instructions prior to the fight!
Patterson of course! My goodness, he tore Quarry's eye open early in their first fight and then seemed to not go near it the rest of the way. After KO'ing Ingo & Cooper he ran over and bent down trying to help them. On three or four occasions, he actually tried to help a fighter up after knocking them down. Darn Floyd, you could have had a little more 'nasty' in you as Andy Griffith would have said. Guess that would have made him a better fighter but less loved by all us fans of his.
Yeah, I gotta agree. No dirty tricks. Just great fundamental boxing. He's similar to Louis, textbook boxer with power...although Pryor did outbox him in their fights.
Probably no one famous. You don't get far in professional boxing unless you know how to bend the rules a bit, no matter how talented.
Patterson tended to hit opponents with looping right hands to the back of the head. He was also a bit reckless coming in with his own head. That was his style.
