Can Galindez gain he respect of Qawi with solid counter shots and stop his relentless attack? Or will Qawi break him down like he did Saad?
Both are counterpunchers at heart Dwight has the better defense, better handspeed. Both have great chins and stamina. Dwight by late rounds tko or decision. It wouldn't be anywhere near as easy as the two fights over the faded Saad Muhammad.
I think Galindez might have more power and better timing. I think he's a more natural counter puncher than Qawi. I'm convinced Galindez mould make Qawi fight on the front foot which naturally leaves him a bit more open to the big counters. Definitely more competitive than Saad.
Galindez for me..a guy with a similar center of gravity as Qawi,...Victor was both smart, strong and clever...and yes, a better counterpuncher than even Qawi. Galindez could lay on those ropes and counter all night,...and I believe would have earned a decision over Dwight.
What makes you say that Galindez had better timing than Qawi? (just curious-- I've only seen Galindez fight against Marvin Johnson).
Well for God's sake kk, do yourself a favor and watch Galindez at his best instead of that fight. He was spent by then...it's like watching SRR against Joey Archer and wondering what all that "P4P" stuff was all about.
Not to downrate Qawi at all, but he won the crown from a pretty much spent Saad, who ripe for the picking, and vs a prime Galindez, he'd have quite another kettle of fish to deal with both stylistically, as well as physically, with another short, strong guy who could counterpunch all night, and would be looking for a points victory instead of taking Dwight's bait by trying to slug with him.
Watch his fight with Ahumada. Galindez had exceptional timing with his shots and was a but more willing to play the role of boxer than Qawi was. Against Saad Qawi knew he couldn't outbox him, tall rangy straight shots were always gonna get there first in a punch for punch battle. So he countered his way in but if you look at round 2, Saad lands a 4 punch combination but just doesn't have the power to keep Qawi off him. Galindez would do that much more common. I'm not saying it's a guarantee that Victor wins, but I can almost guarantee he doesn't get walked through the way Saad did. At first glance Galindez isn't a master technician, you couldn't be blamed for thinking he was just a rugged argie slugger. Especially given he shared an eerie with the slick as **** Conteh. But Victor was a great counter puncher, a superb ring general and had vicious tenacity required to get the job done. I don't think Qawi can outbox him and that means Qawi would have to try walking him down and I'm not overly sure that will work here.
Yes,...Galindez's bouts with Pierre Fourie, Jorge Ahumada, both Richie Kates bouts, for sheer frustration, may both razor thin Yaqui Lopez bouts, and of course, his last hurrah, that revenge beating he gave Mike Rossman...disclaimer here....as badass aguy as Victor Galindez was, these title bouts of his may bore or frustrate you to tears...because of how committed Victor was to the counterpuncher's ethic,....8 title defenses of his went 15 rounds....not saying that you aren't a sophisticated fan, or a student of counterpunching type 15 rounders or ANYTHING negative or catty at all,...just saying that they may not be your cup of tea, but that's what Galindez is all about, and one of the reasons...based on style, that his fan base isn't bigger than it is.
Ahumada is him at his best and probably against his best opponent, albeit one he'd beaten earlier in their careers. The Kates fights are probably the most enjoyable though. The Swan song revenge victory is akin to Mosley beating Margo, a great fighter having one last great fight. Outside of Kates (probably the one he's most known for), as RC says the fights as much more technical based.
