Will Ward Bust Up Kovalev, and can Kov take it?

You don't need power to beat puncher. Just win his respect whether it's hard counter shots or bodyshots. Ward will hit Kov, and it will be to the body. I have never seen Kov fight on the inside before. You will this fight. We will find out how good Kov truly is.

 

Punching power is *meaningless* if you can't find the target. Kovalev is going to have a difficult time landing flush on Ward...

 

I spent some time rewatching a bunch of Ward's fights. Several of his early fights were particularly rugged matches filled with rough tactics and fouling. His pro debut was a raucous foul plagued brawl. For all his slickness people might overlook this is one tough son of a gun in the ring. In several of his fights I was surprised at how he easily he deals with brawlers and does it without losing his cool. He may not be a huge puncher but he is a huge hearted fighter. I was very impressed with his overall physical strength.

Kovalev should be very careful on the inside with Ward.

It really is coming down to how Kov will adapt to Ward. People think that Kov will Pascal Ward. I don't know how Kov is going to fight Ward. I have no idea. Right now I'm thinking keep Ward on the end of your punches.

 

That's exactly what I was thinking. Kovalev's advantages diminish inside the elbow. Ward has a several different kind of jabs and one of them is a slightly curled one that is very effective at close range. Plus he's naturally lefthanded so it really stings. The one thing Ward lacks is a big right hand. He sometimes looks very left handed when he throws it.

I think Boone fights just need to be ignored, he put Kovalev down too and beat him on one of the scorecards.

No way that Boone flooring Ward has any more significance, especially considering Ward won clearly on the scorecards.

When, as Kovalev did, you get put down and lose one of the judges scorecards vs a journeyman ... It's common consensus you've lost that fight in all but name.

 

I'd pay good money to see the consequences of Ward headbutting Sergey

 

i'm sure fans of both guys already have excuses ready and waiting, should their hero lose. fans of the winner will spew bs and run their mouths. fans of the loser will either lay low or come with lame, previously made excuses. the rare few on either side will give credit where it is due. this description actually fits every high profile fight discussed on this site.

You say those shots would have floored many fighters as if Brand is superior to Kovalev. I can understand if it was the other way around, and he was unable to drop Kovalev and you came on here saying "those shots would have floored guys like Brand, no shame in not dropping the Krusher though".

after rewatching kovalev vs hopkins, i realized how hard it is to actually fight kovalev on the inside. hes a rough guy who makes you pay for keeping it close, and he doesnt need distance to hurt you.
watching how ineffective ward was at cutting off the ring and moving forward against brand, makes me wonder how effective ward will be if he gets dropped and has to make up rounds.
ive got it at 60-40 kovalev right now.

 

Pretty much a 50-50 fight, gonna be big!
