Mavrovi (1998) against recent HWs.

    Mavrović had been defeted by Lennox Lewis (1998), but he was competitive or nearly competitive, got some rounds, and had some brilliant moments. It was a wonderful fight, I have rewatched this and enjoyed. Mavrović was a pretty small HW, but strong and devoted, with excellent chin and stamina.

    Can you imagine fantasy matches against recent HWs : Klitschko, Fury, Ortiz, Haye, Wilder, Joshua, Povetkin, Parker ?
    I would mention Usyk, too....he is similar size (and skillset) as Željko.

    How many top 10 opponents of his time has Mavrovich beaten? I can't think of a single one.

    I am speaking about the fighter who was very, very solid against the KING Lennox...I can not remember who were top ten HW 1998...and if Mavrović had fought against some of them...

    Lennox had an off night and carried Mavrovich.

    Its quite hard to rate him over a point loss to an unmotivated Lewis don't you think? Mavrovich has not beaten a SINGLE credible contender in the 90s. He was a Euro nobody.

    I want to focus on match with LL. Firstly, I can not imagine unmotivated Lewis, he was a genuine sportsman and gentleman, whoever claims opposite is wrong, no need to discuss.
    "Off night" and "carried" are not a valid excuse. It is meaningless. Mavrović could dropped Lewis twice...
    And...everyone who thinks that this match was not top 10 HW championship match in last 20 years - should change favourite sport and begin to follow UFC/MMA.

    Lewis could e a bit lazy and unmotivated. But even then Marovic still took his huge bombs for 12 rounds, motivated or not they would of demolished most of the top 10 today if not all.

    Mavrovic was Croatian, and Croatians did NOT have a proficient Pro boxing infrastructure in their war torn country, but if they did, Croatians would be knocking people out left and right, Lennox and Vitali included :hi:

    Eh, I wouldn't go that far.

    My pops knew him from back in the day, I guess Mavrovic would have seminars in Mostar or something, by all accounts a good guy.

    Hrgovic is really promising, but who else do they have? And even during Yugoslavia when the infrastructure was there, Croatia wasn't a boxing powerhouse by any means.
