How would today's middleweight kingpin have fared vs Joey Giardello (1963-64 vintage)? 15 rounds as always.

I don't know to much about Giardello, but the guy was slick and beat a fair number of big punchers. That doesn't bode well for Canelo, I think he would drop a decision.

Giardello would have easily decisioned Canelo.

Yeah. There really aren't a lot of other factors at work here to discuss. :think

Well, if someone is so inclined to provide a round by round synopsis...hypothetically as to how a bout between them would have gone, they can do so, but I think it would have been a rather routine day at the office for the old wizard Giardello.

    Quoted for truth :)

First instinct was Joey WIDE UD, upon reflection this maybe a better match than I first thought but "close but clear UD Joey" is as generous to the younger man as I think I can go...
You just can't pick against a guy that outpointed a fading Sugar Man, **** Tiger and Rubin Carter during the time you specified unless there is some outstanding achievement to compare - and there really isn't in this case.

    Canelo being sold short here.

He is twice the athlete and 100 x the puncher.

Out-athleted or out-punched; Joey pick your poison.

Giardello was a middleweight, too big for Canelo.

    New expression,being out- athleted .:patsch
100x the puncher, oh my good Christ!
    Giardello beat Tiger,Carter,Hank etc.
Alvarez beat Cotto , Trout, Kirkland.

True, but he would be fair game since he now holds one of the 160 baubles of today, ...and oh yes, he's the "lineal champion", isn't he?

Canelo isn't being "sold short",...he's just nowhere as good a fighter as Giardello was.

Giardello had ability that Alvarez can only dream about - different class, not only in weight!

Canelo just turned 26 and is fighting at a "modern pace". How do you feel justified in ranking him at this point against a guy who, at the same age, had only a couple decisions (and a loss) against a very shopworn Billy Graham, a win over Gil Turner and 11 losses?

    A pretty silly match-up.
