anyone know how Magomed Abdusalamov is doing... I googled him but found nothing but details on lawsuits... found Google pics of him on an exercise bike inverted so he could pedal while still in a hospital bed but other undated pics showed him at home in a wheel chair with his family around him... will he ever walk again?
Last I heard he is not doing well and will require full time care for the remainder of his life unless something short of a miracle happens. He lives in CT and has not gotten any settlement for his injuries.
There needs to be an insurance policy in place for boxers. In case of debilitating injuries, there should be compensation for the boxer from the boxing and state commission. If the state can receive taxes from the fighter, it is only fair and just that they should be in a position to reciprocate in case of injuries.
They must introduce extremely padded gloves (more padded than AIBA boxing) and effective headgear, only then can boxers be reasonably safe. Landing clean, hard punches should then be prioritised so it doesn't turn into a game of fencing. At least that way, no ones brain is damaged anywhere near as much and we still see wars.
Some pictures from march. Starting ~ 16:00 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ji5pjTiiwd0 If you take a closer look at the scar and the deformation on the left side of his head ... you may imagine how "big" the brain injury was/is.
Boxers can purchase disability insurance just like the general public, I assume you mean there should be some sort of "worker's compensation" type group insurance in place. I agree.
