i dont quite believe it either. he mentioned nothing of Hearns and that alone makes me suspicious Best jab should go to Hearns since it almost went thru the back of his head handspeed & combinations would go to Hearns who was the new breed of fighter and Roberto couldnt cope with all that Tommy had going for him
Duran fought Hearns out of shape and past his prime. Not many would argue against that. The reason he picked Buchanan's jab over Hearns (Both ATG Jabs) is because he was in peak physical condition when he experiended how problematic Buchanan's jab was to deal with while he was a bloated mess vs Hearns. Hearns is 100% the best puncher Duran faced, the reason he didn't pick him was probably because he felt if he was in better shape he could have avoided his power shots or at least took the sting out of them enough not to be face planted. I feel he should have picked Hearns for that one though. Duran was probably never beating Hearns at that age and weight class no matter what shape he turned up in.
Good read. It has the usual stuff with fighters no really wanting to acknowledge those that beat them in an embarrassing way, but with that in mind I was a bit surprised about the credit he gave Leonard.
Has there EVER actually been a NON scabby fukkin MURICAN fighter you give credit to, much less admire, you moron?:roll:
Perish the thought that Duran meant in a pound for pound sense,eh?:roll: Oh forgot, De Jesus couldn't possibly hit harder than Tommy in any sense of the word cos he wasn't Murican.nut
It was nice to see that Duran holds Ken Buchanan in such high esteem, but it's the highest form of delusional bull**** for him to rate DeJesus over Hearns as who hit him harder...and that's why, as entertaining as these lists are, they're so be taken with a grain of salt at best. Very rarely does an ex fighter come across as straight ahead honest.
Puerto Ricans are natural-born citizens of the United States. Like they had a choice!!! Don't worry, in another 10 years so will Iraqis.
They certainly were. I can't see the problem. Anyone who claims to know boxing should be well aware Duran's best fighting weight by far and away was 135, so of course he is going to claim anyone who hurt him at that weight hit harder than any naturally bigger guys he fought. Again anyone who claims to know about boxing should have gathered Duran meant it in a p4p sense, they shouldn't need Roberto to spell it out for them.
flash knockdown by Dejesus; face down seimi-conscious by Hearns. Look what Hearns did to Cuevas. Even in a "pound for pound sense", Hearns was obviously the harder hitter. Only Foxy wouldn't get this.
