do you condsider Razor Ruddock to have a weak chin

of course it was NOT premature, when a guy is not throwing any punch and just remains standing against the ropes and taking shots and finally His neck WAS BACKED brutally this one is not a good example of premature stoppage. this poor guy vince voltage did hear about the fight and never watched it.

No, he did not have a weak chin.

The focus of neophytes things like "glass jaws" and "home run power" are a debasement of the sport.

Better to ask, could Ruddock get lazy and get countered... or did Ruddock gas out and lose focus.

At the end of the day, if you allow a world class opponent to hit you on the button, you are going to have major problems almost no matter how stout your chin.

 

He didn't have the best of chins but he had plenty of heart. He reacted like a Crash Test Dummy though when dropped, I've never seen a fighter get dropped so strangely....

 

He was reckless, but I wouldn't say he had a glass jaw. You wouldn't compare his chin to the likes of Tyson, Holyfield etc but he had a good chin. Better than average, but being reckless would cause it to crack prematurely. If he used his boxing skills and movement (which he did have), he could survive and outbox or land his signature SMASH.

 

Well, I agree his chin wasn't glass.

But Tyson put him down 4 times, Lewis dropped him 3 times and KO'd in 2, Morrison scored 3 KD's (2 standing 8 counts, another one - almost clean KO), past prime Smith almost KO'd Ruddock.

So while his chin was Ok, it was far from Mercer, Holyfield, of McCall

I'd say his chin was definitely NOT better than Lewis'

About how I see it. With Ruddock, I think his stamina was a greater issue as he slowed down in the later rounds.

He was just very, very easy to hit/counter.

Those shots that Tyson was nailing him with would have knocked out a horse and they sure as hell would have scrambled F&D and any other armchair expert who has the audacity to call a man able to take career ending punishment glass-jawed.

By the time he lost to Morison he was shot.

 

His chin wasn't fragile and nor was it made of iron. It was a solid middle of the road chin. He was stopped a fair number of times in his career, but be that as it may, you don't take direct shots from men like Tyson and Smith unless you're made of something more than glass.
