Most trailers look awesome. Can the actors capture the charisma and skills or Leonard, and the scowl and destructive aura of Duran? If they can't the movie will fail. I actually hope the movie shows the other side of boxing in terms of contract negotiation, injuries and such to build a human interest among the fighters. For example, Leonard got like 8 million for the first fight. Duran, maybe 1.5 million...and he was ****ed!
Read a review today that it was kinda ho hum and mediocre. Gonna see it anyway. It said Deniro does his best work in yrs and the lead does a good job too but the story is kinda paint by numbers and goes off into too many distracting tangents.
I try to avoid reading reviews anymore. For one thing most of them end up being contrary to how I ultimately feel about the film and for another, I don't like to be bias going in.
That's exactly what I read. But, like you, I will watch it as well lol. Looking forward to it actually.
When it comes to reviews, I'm okay with a mixed review if I like the subject material. Robert De Niro is worth ten dollars by himself.
The trailers around my way now are weird. They are making it out to be a Robert DeNiro fighting the mob movie for some reason.
I'm of the same mind. I will wait for the official Duran autobiography 'I am Duran' rather than a half hearted, ill-informed Hollywood spin on of the greatest fist fighters of all-time.
Might be better off going and re-reading the articles in World Boxing, International Boxing, The Ring, and Boxing Illustrated about Duran in his prime years,,,,especially the ones with him glaring at photos of Arguello and /or Leonard.
The book was fantastic. It's kinda fitting with deniro as he and pesci spent time with duran in NYC during the filming of raging bull My brother has this idea in his head from the trailer that they will reverse the Leonard fights to make him end a winner. I said no way
Supposedly Deniro is the best part of the film. Two reviews i read said the movie should have been all Deniro.
The way the media has covered this, you'd think this movie was about Arcel and Ray Leonard. I just want to see Buchanan get punched in the nuts.
