Boxers affected and unaffected by Dementia pugilistica

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Andre Berto, he's starting to get mushed mouth.

 

People deny that Ali was affected by it, do not want to believe it for emotional reasons. No one is going to convince them of logic and facts when they are like emotional SJW's who never let a good emotion get in the way of a better argument.

Ali literally used his iron chin as a defensive tactic and shipped lots of punishment from lots of the biggest hitters and best fighters ever at HW...to say that had zero affect whatsoever on his condition is to be living in the land of the flying unicorns.

 

Wlad Klitschko has been brutally knocked out a few times, but overall probably took little punishment. At age 40 he seems coherent and unaffected thus far.

 

Angel Manfredy's in a disturbingly sad state these days. He was deluded and full of excuses during his career and he's screwed up from drugs and religion, but has to be suffering traumatic brain injury more than anything.

I thought Jones jr was borderline a couple of years ago, but he seems to be doing fine. Guerrero is a guy I'm worried about.

His doctor didn't say that.

1. You posted an article where his doctor said he has Parkinson's from being punched in the back of the head but denied pugilistic dementia, exactly what I've been saying.
2. You pulled a quote from the article saying he doesn't have pugilistic dementia and thought it meant he did have it
3. I've been saying this whole time that Parkinson's from getting hit in the head is separate from pugilistic dementia; one damages motor control but not your ability to think, the other is like Alzheimer's.

Get it? (Btw I am actually a doctor.)

 

It caused Parkinson's but apparently had little effect on his cognition or memory, so it wasn't pugilistic dementia.

 

I love boxing, and I talk about boxing to my friends everytime I can.

They ask me why I didnt continue with my amateur "career" if I love so much this sport, why I quitted. I answer them that I was not good enough, and that I didnt want to take permanent brain damage.

Boxing is a hell of a sport, I love it with all my heart. But we need to be aware about the risks it implies. And every boxer should know what is he risking for whe he fights, and the risks of his boxing style too. And act with coherence. You have to know when to quit and how to fight. Brawlers are the hell of a fighters, but they are paying a price, and they have to be aware of that. Provodnikov, for instance, is going to have a really rough time... and it's a pity...

 

It's more complicated than that. If you have more cerebrospinal fluid in the same amount of space, it would raise the pressure of fluid and that could cause brain damage. That's why if your brain starts swelling a doctor might open your skull to give it space. So you'd need more space in your skull to begin with or having more fluid would cause problems. In any case, I think you'd want the pressure to be on the low end of the normal range.

My first guess would be that pugilistic dementia and traumatic Parkinson's are related to chronic or repeated inflammation. Chronic inflammation screws up everything.

 

Wow, really sad to see. This is crazy. I feel bad sometimes being a boxing fan. I pay for enjoy seeing these men ruin their life and health. It's disgusting when I come to think of it.

 

yeah I know what you mean I swear I sometimes hate this sport that I love if that makes sense,after seeing the above film you worry for someone like Amir Khan and how anyone could knock Floyd for basically being smart in the ring is beyond me.
