I just saw the movie and liked it overall. The acting was great, especially De Niro. The guy playing Duran was good too, though he looks more like a light-heavyweight. The film only goes through to the Davey Moore fight, and ends on that high. There is no pesky Benitez, Hearns, or Hagler to muck things up. I think fans will enjoy it.
You have got it in ONE.:good Hollywood, and LIFE have less than FUK ALL in common. Some two bob Jewish, Murican director / producer could not POSSIBLY know what it was like to grow up in the streets of Panama in the late 50's / early 60's. They just THINK they do.
Not all all. I saw it this weekend and enjoyed it -- no way it could have covered every high and low point of his career (no Palomino, no Kirkland Laing either) and it closes on the Davey Moore fight... Boxing action is so-so but the stuff in the corner between Arcel/Deniro and Duran/Ramirez is gold. They do a good job of getting us inside Duran's makeup and how Panama-U.S. c**** relations shaped him. It's no Creed, but if you like boxing and you like Duran, it's worth your time IMO.
I watched all of Durans major bouts live and know his story. I have no desire to see it dramatized on film.
Well then, it's important that you take care of your inner child and protect him from this. We all have to do what is right for ourselves as individuals.
Haven't seen it yet. But glad to hear something good about De Niro, especially after this year's Dirty Grandpa. What a piece of ****, that was.
Not at all? So they do show both Leonard fights? I get they can;t show everything but if they skipped the first fight and went right into the rematch it would be some US fookery conveniently portraying leonard like he was an unbeatable boxing god in addition to skipping over Duran's greatest win.
I would tend to agree; DeNiro's best days are long behind him and IMO Robert M's performance as Max Cady in the original 'Cape Fear' blows Robert D's over the top effort in the remake to shreads! But, I'm a critic guy; if a handful of them say the film is c r a p o l a, then I won't go. If a handful of them say it's good, then I may be in line.
Yes, the first Leonard fight is included, and it's done well. The only part that made me roll my eyes was when Juanita Leonard tells Ray that he has to humiliate Duran to win, as if it was some profound piece of wisdom she pulled out of her ass. That moment made me shudder, but the rest of the film was respectable.
I don't know, but i feel i'm the only one who doesn't feel attracted from the trailers, they look really bad imo, but i wanna see it, Duran didn't like it tho, but his son enjoyed the movie.
