I thought you were ignoring me? wow, you are a funny dude,,,well Herol, that depends on the ref,, that depends on the severity of the clinches, that depends on how the opponent reacts to the clinch,,,, why do you always make the mistake of thinking there is a easy answer to everything when reality teaches you otherwise? how many times can you make the same mistake?
Tyson was rock solid at 215-220 Lbs. In his prime. He stood about 5'10" but claimed 5'11 1/2" in those days. He was beating up guys who were taller but about the same weight. I didn't really consider Tyson the smaller guy in most of these fights, just shorter. Louis was 6'2" and rock solid at 200-210 Lbs. He beat some big guys as you mentioned but they were limited fighters. Dempsey was 6'1" and just under 190 Lbs. In his prime. He fought a lot of guys his size and even smaller. He also beat some really big guys but that's about all they were. Give some more recent examples for God's sake! Holyfield, Byrd, and Toney... theybcpuld beat good fighters who were also big. Size mattered even against these men. Size isn't everything but it's most certainly a "big thing". Weight divisioms exist for a reason, although we don't need most of the junior/super divisions.
Strength in the ring is only in the least aspect about punching power. How I wish boxing was just some pristine, well-spaced hit and not be hit affair, about never having to protect your position or not about the mauling that goes on, that there were no ropes, no motions but punching, feinting and parrying and blocking... Oh, and having extra functional weight can definitely help with average power of your shots. It may or may not help with your most "devestating" shot but your other 300 jabs and hooks will be improved.
Yeah but he was on steroids. Which is actually an example of what I'm talking about :good Guys who see/saw these changes were/are on steroids.
Reason I didn't talk about recent examples is because I always see guys talking about the ATG's of far in the past as being too small. Dempsey fought big guys who were top contenders (Fulton) in his day. The super heavies Louis fought were also top contenders and some former champs.
Sorry today's heavyweights can't randomly flail their arms about like past greats Galento and Baer. I mean Wilder tries his best, but he's only one man y'know.
Sounds like you confused yourself then. You're the one who suggested that we now have an epidemic of steroid freaks who got faster, bigger, more powerful, and developed better stamina etc. in their 30s and 40s. I'm asking you to stop with the vague generalizations and to explain who you're talking about.
