I think Louis was carrying a bit extra weight, since he was only doing exhibitions. I reckon he's 230 or more here, that's how he looks a bit thicker.

The USA could really use an athlete like Joe Louis today. That and fair media coverage that does not fan the flames.

Instead, the story today is a mediocre football player, who wears a Malcolm X hat and a Fidel Castro shirt ( Two very different philosophies ) refusing to stand for the national anthem.

 

Hats and shirts are clothing not philosophies.

(although some might argue that hats are accesories. It depends on the type of hat and the context/intention in wearing them.)
