Two men from the same time (so there is no cross era nonsense) They never ran in to each other, but they had many common opponents. Who'd do you have over 15 rounds?
Great one! I am taking Walcott, but could go either way. I give a decision nod to Walcott by virtue of being the more natural Heavyweight. Does anyone know if this one ever came close to happening?
I was thinking that it would go in his favor too, with him having the better lateral movement. I think he could make Moore come forward. That or Moore suckers him in o his big counters.
Archie Moore (196lbs) beat true heavyweight Nino Valdes (209lbs) with all the chips on the line for a shot at Marciano. Going with Moore by close decision. Very interesting info here as a snapshot of the heavyweight situation in May 1955. http://boxrec.com/media/index.php?title=Fight:20502 Promoter Jack Kearns announced that Moore and Valdes would fight for the "World Heavyweight Championship of Nevada." Referring to World Heavyweight Champion Rocky Marciano, Kearns said, "That other guy refused to fight either Moore or Valdes, so they're declaring the title vacant and the winner will claim it." Moore was a 2 to 1 betting favorite. Moore was the reigning World Light Heavyweight Champion, and Valdes was the No. 1-ranked heavyweight contender.
