I think both kovalev and Ward deserve respect because no one really wants to face either guy. They took it upon themselves to make the fight happen and are not making Mayweather or Pac type money. They aren't worried about their undefeated records. So both guys deserve respect.
You don't have to be a thunderous puncher to stop someone. Accumulation and getting hit with shots you don't see coming takes its toll. I NEVER thought hopkins would beat Kovalev lol. I actually thought Hopkins was gonna get stopped around the 5th round. Who was dumb enough to think a man 1 month shy of his 50th birthday was gonna beat Kovalev? I don't care who it was.. I knew the outcome of that fight as soon as it was signed.
Neither Crawford nor Floyd faced anybody as good as a prime Kovalev. Sergey may be 33 years old, but he's got an old man's game. And he's a vicious puncher with skill. I give Ward credit for showing way more nuts than Floyd or Crawford ever showed.

Ward doesn't stop people through accumulation, he's hardly a Ko thirsty fighter, he's a results man. He hasn't got much o desire for KOs. Why didn't he ko Rodriguez, Barrera, brand, miranda. And why did it take 10 rounds or so to tko Paul smith who was carrying 10lbs of flab and looked like he been drinking well from the Abraham fights. So of all a sudden ward is going to search for a KO against one of the most dangerous punchers on the planet. You do realise Kovalev has a very devasting left counter and has dropped many a guy with a feint then right hand. I think you maybe confusing Andre ward with someone else.
Usually boxers have the advantage over punchers stylistically. If Kovalev beats Ward it will be because he's just the better fighter.

So half of the media and boxing fans were picking Mayweather to lose to Pac last year, and now Pac wasn't as good as Kovalev? Diego Corrales was an undefeated huge puncher and many thought his height and reach were gonna be too much for Mayweather. Alvarez was shut out. I've been watching boxing long before Mayweather turned pro, so I'm no groupie and I definitely don't believe he's the best ever, but I think it's safe to say he's faced opponents "as good as" Kovalev. I'll give you Crawford though.
I can't imagine Kovalev losing to a fighter like Clottey. Corrales was a one dimensional plodder. He hit very hard, but his skill and power was a class below Kovalev. Come on man. Postol is a bun compared to Kovalev. Sergey is the real deal.
Problem is Kovalev is more than just a puncher he can box he has a good jab he's patient and picks his shots well and is the bigger man.
