I think he gets recognition from historians of the sport.

I suppose the knock on him is that he used a lot of dubious tactics, virtually never knocked a man out, racked up points by slappy and cuffing rather than proper punching.

He gets the proper recognition IMO.

A better question would be "should he incite more interest".

I think he is under rated...ignored as much as possible and consigned to the "oddity corner"....maybe due to prejudice against his style and methods...like Jimmy Young, for example.

Film is him is so rare hardly anyone claims to have seen it. That might explain why he's discussed less than some others of his era.

But then again, Hary Greb's been discussed loads. That could be because Greb was better than Rosenbloom and proved it.

I mean, Greb is an exception.

He's referred to as almost cartoonish .. that being said I'm sure he was very talented .. also very tough , stopped only twice in over 200 fights ..

Could be his movie and night club (with Max Baer) personnae influencing this...in those movies he played in he was rather clownish with that stereotypical "pug" thing going on....plus, the "Slapsie" inference...hardly an intimidating sobriquet...maybe has caused the confusion.

I agree. He was actually the fall guy to Baer in them and sadly seemed a bit punchy as well. All part of it.

With no footage its pretty hard and he hasn't the mythical qualities of a Greb to enhance his rep .

Bert Sugar said Joe Louis would not fight him. I think he could be a little under rated.

He was definitely underated...he was a marvel of cleverness, but that doesn't excite the casual, or even most ,mainline boxing fans like the dangerous sluggers.
