Kell's defense was always suspect. Why not keep your right hand up to catch the hooks. They knew coming in that GGG was a hooker.

When a fighter comes along that does not allow GGG to cut off the ring then we will see GGG in real trouble.
    So, Canelo probably isn't it.
And it certainly wont be a welterweight.
This would have to be a quicker fighter of similar size.
A lot of guys have the speed(Eubank, Degale), but not the chin, size and/ορ Boxing Ability.
The only guy I can think of is Ward but he probably is too heavy and too busy.

I agree, but I didn't feel they balanced that risk correctly. He wasn't in long term danger. The danger Brook faced was arguably less than the suspected danger he'd be in if he even accepted the fight. What did they think was going to happen? Most of us felt he'd take A LOT more damage. He was never afforded a chance to eat some shots and come back strong.

Brook wasn't being seriously injured and he wasn't going to die. He was at worst going to get knocked out. It's a boxing match. That's always going to be a risk. If this is a situation like Tommy Morrisson laying lifeless on the ropes, absolutely I'm with you. But his hands were up, his legs were there. He came into this fight expecting to get hit...but the fight was over as soon as he did. It's not even like he was losing. It's just not my idea of combat sports. For me, somee of the greatest moments ever are comebacks. When someone endures and overcomes. Or the wars people go through and grow as people after. Hagler Hearns, Ali Frazier, Gatti Ward. It's just something that's gone from the sport. If a fighter is still on his feet, andd isn't at risk of serious injury...let the fight continue.

Brook did very well there, GGG won by injury stoppage not because of a KO. He didn't even knock him down.

I agree that comebacks are great and fighters should be given the opportunity to turn things around but this stoppage was good imo. The reasons being Kell was indicating that his eye was damaged. What happens if he gets hit again and again by a huge puncher on an already damaged eye? Possibly a career ending injury. Possibly jeopardizing his sight in that eye. Also it really, really, really didn't look likely that Kell was gonna make a comeback. It looked like he was about to get ktfo anyway.

hardly any thought he would[and a load of trolls here], just a few of us had a hopeful feeing the underdog would win, nothing wrong with that. He gained nothing but respect and left to fight again another day. Despite this as a boxing fan I am disgusted with the sport that its come to this, a ww moving up to fight the number one mw because nobody else would. system needs a shakeup. its business then sport. its why mma is more compelling to watch/ the one league system kinda thing that keep casuals engaged and fighters keep fighting who they need to.
edit few drinks in that may not make total sense, hope it does tho

They said that Roy Jones Jr said that Brook wanted to quit thinking that his eye socket might be broken and that his corner had to talk him into continuing, and that if he was taking too much punishment they would stop it. Brook didn't think that he was taking too much punishment, but his trainer did.

I think the fact that he injured it early and had several solid rounds and wasn't going down and being rocked in that round earned him a call to the end of the round so they could ask him how his eye was.

I don't think it was SO foreign for Kell to have a comeback. He was hurt much worse imo in the first round when he was rocked and wobbled than he was in the fifth. He was put on the ropes and started eating a big combo. It was nothing compared to McGregor taking Nate Diaz' shots at UFC 202 when on the cage. After that round, there's a very real possibility that GGG would have been very tired, and there would be a full 6 rounds to potentially tire him out even more.

After round 2, I said Brook had the fight. He was at risk of a big shot again but GGG was putting too much into his shots, slowing down and tiring out. He managed to push through with insane pressure and had a huge combo on Brook...and then the fight ended. No knockdowns, nobody was rocked and stunned. One guy had a potentially broken orbital bone and was having trouble with his eye. Eddie Alvarez broke his nose and orbital bone in round 1 against Gilbert Melendez, blew his nose, ballooned up both his eyes so he could barely see, won the fight 20 minutes later and is now the UFC champ.

If Brook has something seriously wrong (like when Dan Henderson had a flap in his eye cut opened) then sure, good stoppage. But the fans didn't see a huge issues, his corner likely couldn't and Brook didn't feel there was. I don't see the problem.

So GGG was so exposed, yet you still have to run to a P4P fighter 2 divisions higher to find someone to beat him?

That's like someone saying Brook was overrated but GGG was going to be the one to expose him. It's the exact opposite of damning with faint praise; it's praise to need to go that far to criticize him.
