Jacobs has more to gain out of this. It is in his best financial interest to become the Triple G slayer. The benefits for Jacobs outweigh the small sacrifice paid by having HBO produce the fight. And Ggg is the clear A side and would be giving Jacobs his biggest payday ever.

If Jacobs isn't confident I can see them being stubborn about the network.

 

Interesting situation - yes, it does depend on whether HBO is willing to let GGG fight on a rival network but also - although its possible a cross promotion could be worked out. However with a 75 / 25 split if it goes to purse Haymon would have to bid ridiculously high to give Jacobs the kind of payday he seems to be expecting in a fight where he'll certainly be a significant underdog. $5 - 6 at least unless Danny is now willing to go a lot lower than he previously indicated. I can't see it making a successful PPV so that's a money losing proposition. However it may have seemed last year it has become apparent that uncle Als pockets are not bottomless and he has been less profligate in 2016. Would he take the gamble or bluff HBO into upbiddin... whether to hurt HBO or simply because he believes in his guy? Time will tell I guess.

 

If it goes to pursebids, which I expect, it depends on what Haymon believes is going to happen and how deep his pockets still are.
If Haymon bids the motherload (say at least $12M to give Jacobs $3M), he must be damn sure that HBO doesn't let Golovkin fight on one of his channels, because he can't afford to lose that kinda money on a almost certain loss for his fighter.
So, I believe Haymon isn't going to bid much at all if it comes to that.

GGG doesn't care, HBO is another issue. They should let him, this will be a low risk fight for GGG and can build him up further. People are expecting a good opponent and Jacobs at least has some reputation.

 

There has already been reports that HBO has no interest in this fight. A few of the YTBC pundits have reported this. Speculation is that Peter Nelson HBO boxing head is out of his depth and more of a casual boxing fan with the power of a network executive.

Haymon has to cut a deal. Jacobs isn't making any money with the junior belt and Triple G is the best payday out there he will get. Plus K2 is easy to work with this isn't Golden Boy or Arum.
If he tries to play games he's only going to hurt his fighter from getting the biggest fight and payday he can receive. Making Triple G drop the belt over network obligations would be bad business for his guy.
I think this fight gets made and quickly.

 

Although I wish Haymon would win a purse bid for staging Triple G vs Jacobs I dont think its very likely to happen.
Haymon does still have some funds from that hedge fund but it seems they're on the low in 2016.

I like Jacobs, he s stand up guy , entertaining boxer but if gets 25% of 2.5 M lets say , I hope Al gives him least another mil on the side.
On the other hand Jacobs called out GGG numerous times. He cant pull a Canelo and vacate. Not now. That would look so bad. At the end of the day I think it all depends on how confident Danny feels of winning this fight.

 

I don't see Al putting up a big number, gmurphy probably has it right although I hope not. We've seen Haymon fighters end up on the shelf, look no further than Danny's buddy Quillin
