Pirog softened him up thats why. Same reason why Matthysse took bombs from Provodnikov, Garcia, and Molina....but was KO'd by a light punching Postol
Last I checked he didn't beat a 10 count, and stayed down after it too. Angulo had an eye problem with Lara, didn't mean he was on his knees.
Canelo obliterated a game 154 pounder, of Euro level last night. That is all you can say. If Canelo hit all that hard, he would have KO'd smith after the first few flush head shots landed. He didn't. He kept landing his flashy shot, and Smith get eating them until he succumbed 9 rounds in.
Yeah but you conveniently left out that Monroe also faced Vera, Adams, Bondrovas and Kopylenko, all of whom have better power than Thompson. No one said Willie had huge power but... Willie beat Thompson by shutout and dropped him twice, the match wasn't even competitive, Liam lost EVERY ROUND against Thompson until he gassed and finally caught him. You're right it doesn't look very good does it?
Not to mention that post Jacobs, Pirog's back was fairly fvcked up. He likely wasn't punching at optimal levels anymore.
He felt his eye pop, but he wasn't hurt. Lol. Anyway, Canelo does have power. His punches do damage when he lands nobody can dispute that. Does he hit harder than GG? Probably not, but don't tell me that Canelo does not have power because he does. Now when facing another A level fighter is where we judge if a guy has TRUE power. Did Canelo show that power against Lara, Trout, and Cotto? No, he showed respectable power. Did he do damage. Most certainly. Leonard they said didn't have true power after losing to Duran. Before he fought Duran Sugar showed true power when he beat Benitez lol. And he showed true power against Hearns. So this is where I'm going. Everyone's opinion is different when it comes to a guy that they love or hate lol... You guys know that I rode with Canelo until the GG duck. But I won't deny that Canelo doesn't have power. But he doesn't have true power. I don't know if GG has true power. He seems the look, but he needs that opponent that can show me that he has true power. You don't have to stop a guy with one shot to have true power. Not everyone is Foster, Jackson, Tyson, or Duran.
Canelo doesn't have spectacular power. It seems pretty average, honestly. He does have a good ability to counter-punch which amplifies his power, but it isn't the same thing as having good power. It is good timing.
At this point we're going to argue semantics. To me when I hear "power" i just think of the force generated with a punch on its own. He's good at catching people and if you can't take a punch then you're getting knocked out, but who couldn't do that?
