Unfortunately, Ortiz is a member of the "Who needs him club". The same club Rigo is chairman of. He doesn't bring much money but brings a very tough test.

Man, I wish I knew. King Kong is my favorite active HW and it's been a decade or better since I had one of those. If there is anybody in the sport being ducked, it's Ortiz imo. I think he beats everybody in the division.

Maybe they think so too and that's the problem...:sisigay:

This never happens 'Toemaker' only will fight cans till Lucas Browne for the paper belt.
Then he will call himself 2 time heavyweight champ of the world, laughable really.
No heavy at all wants any part of that PED cheat Kong they know he handles them.

Why does Ortiz get a pass for being a cheat? It's bizarre.

I'm with you. He's entertaining to watch for sure but I've no interest in him getting anywhere further in the business for it

Well Ortiz has a few problems, nobody wants to fight him and no champion will give him the chance in a voluntary defence because he is considered far too dangerous for a voluntary defence.

Ortiz has called out Joshua because Joshua still has no named opponent for November but Ortiz isn't in the top 15 in the IBF so he can't fight AJ in a voluntary defence even if AJ wanted to fight him.

So I believe he will have to get himself in to a mandatory position for a title shot and that will take time so he could be in for a long wait.

Browne wouldn't last any longer than Hayes previous 2 'cans'. His 'style' makes him Hayes dream opponent.

In the UK, I don't think the board allow you to fight there for 2 years after failing a drug test. Was it not less than 2 years ago Ortiz failed his?

To me, Ortiz seems like a lot of Cuban boxers- a lot of talk about people ducking them but not a lot of action to back it up.

Ortiz says: "Joshua won't fight me"
Ortiz actions: Dump the promotional company that could make it happen, holds onto a bogus WBA title that won't allow Joshua to fight him rather than becoming an IBF mandatory.

Erislandy Lara says: "Golovkin is ducking me"
Lara actions: Make no formal contact to GGG, stay at JMW, make no attempt to get one of the titles GGG is chasing or become a mandatory for one he holds.

Rigondeaux says: "Every man and his dog is ducking me"
Rigondeaux action: Signs with a promotional company with a poor working relationship with every other major promoter, turns down Lomachenko, acts like Amagasa, Francisco and Dickens are the best fighters willing to fight him, turns down Jamie McDonnell on the Brook-GGG undercard.

This pretty much sums up, Ortiz's predicament at the moment. He's only ranked by the WBA and with the fight with Ustinov falling through may lose him his interim belt. The WBA ordered the fight with Ustinov as a part of their supposed mini tournament but may not look kindly to Ortiz's decision.

If he loses his standing with the WBA he's pretty much out of the picture of ever getting a title shot. Too risky, little to no reward for that risk and he's tainted by doping. Not many neutrals will really care if a fighter who's been caught doping gets a big pay day by getting a title shot.
