Some people on here saying GGG is on the 'brink' of becoming a bigger star in the sport than Canelo... Here are some things to note:

GGG did not sell out the 02, Brook & Sky did.

GGG had 1 PPV bout, 97k buys.
Canelo had 5 PPV bouts, all adding to something like 4.2 million buys

Canelo sold out 51 thousands seats all on his own.
GGG only sells out 18 thousand seats

Canelo's viewers in Mexico are huge. His fight with mayweather did 22 million viewers. With austin trout he did 15 million.
(keep in mind mexico is 1 third of america's population)

Golovkins 1.x million viewers vs Canelo's 15+ million viewers

GGG will never be as popular as canelo unless he beats him.

So that's how it works, Golovkin didn't sell out the O2 it was all Brook and Sky.

But those PPV sales/numbers were all Canelo and nothing to do with Mayweather, Cotto and the rest.

Stopped reading after the first bit because your logic is bias and ridiculous and you have just killed your own credibility.

    Have a good evening.

I don't think who is more popular is THAT difficult to figure out, what I'm curious about is what makes people think this is some huge Manny or Floyd level fight? This fight at best is Canelo-Cotto type numbers what fantasy are people in thinking this is a border line recording breaking fight

Mayweather, cotto? Yes... They played a bigger part in the sales... I'm not stupid
However what I'm saying is canelo has been part of those fights. His star power and popularity is much higher.

People who think GGG is more popular than Canelo have killed their own credibility.
    Have a good evening.

Canelo is obviously a far bigger draw than GGG. Its not rocket science.
If GGG was fighting a non British fighter in the UK it wouldn't get close to selling out the O2, and it certainly wouldn't warrant a PPV.

Canelo is by far the bigger draw of the two, it's not even up for debate. Not sure why that stings you so much.

You've made yourself look a bias fool by the way you have tried to twisted and spin in that post.

You quote the 97K, so that fight and those number were Golovkins problem but the Brook numbers were all Brook and Sky? OK that's obviously not bias ffs.

Also Canelo Vs Smith sold fewer PPV's than Golovkin Vs Brook but I suppose that Smiths fault? Now you'll switch it and say "PPV costs less in the UK so Canelo Vs Smith made more money". Twist and spin, twist and spin and more twist and spin.

And Canelo sold all those PPV's himself against Mayweather and Cotto? You say you are not stupid well you should make sure you word it so people know you understand that it wasn't all Canelo.

Canelo was fighting Mayweather who holds all records for PPV, that might have a little something to do with it.
And also Canelo was the "B Side" against Cotto in terms of purses, so who brought the numbers and figures there? Who has more fans Cotto or Canelo?

You have just twisted and spun a few facts and figures to try and prove something that nobody is really questioning, Golovkin is from Kazakhstan and Canelo from the boxing nation of Mexico, Mexico has a far bigger population and boxing is a national sport so I would think fan for fan Canelo has more.

It doesn't sting me in the slightest, the wording and blinkered view of it from that post slitly irritated me.

Crawford did around 50K in the US against Postol, so that don't always mean a fighter from the US does good numbers in his own country so Golovkin Vs Brook might not have done good here in the UK but it did so you can't say with any certainty that Golovkin wouldn't sell here in the UK.

UK fight fans turn out in numbers for boxing, we always have, even an aged, shot to pieces Tyson was the hottest ticket in town when he fought over here. We love boxing and pay to watch it.

I agree, fan for fan Canelo should have more, he is from Mexico and Golovkin from Kazakhstan, I don't get the point of the thread?

i understood your point. who the bigger draw is right now is not in question, it was the stretching and reshaping of the truth that i found funny. why would a BOXING FAN need the gymnastics to make a point.

How big of a draw would Canelo be - all other things equal - if he was from Tunesia and not from Mexico? Canelo's draw is purely based on his ethnicity. Quite a weak claim.

The big story that is left out here by the original post is the TRAJECTORY of each fighters popularity. GGG has been steadily gaining in popularity while Canelo has taken a huge hit. Even with his own "ethnicity". Let's get them PPV numbers for Canelo's most recent PPV which is his first since dropping the MW belt to GGG for free and running back to 154. I think there are a lot more former Canelo fans than current ones.

:risas3: In spite of what O$car wants you to believe...

THIS IS NOT A POPUALITY CONTEST.

:bandit: Without GGG/K2 there is no MEGA FIGHT. As shown with Canelo's last PPV... tomato cans don't draw flies.

:applaudit: If O$car/GBP/Canelo want a MEGA PAYDAY... they have to deal with GGG/K2.

If not, life goes on. GGG will hold ALL THE BELTS and O$car & Canelo will hold a STINKY BAG of.....fill in the blank.

    ;)

I will agree that Canelo has a larger fan base and is a bigger draw but GGG is catching on with casuals and everybody knows Canelo
