Canelo probably makes a pretty penny off of Mexican tv where his fights draw twenty million pairs of eyeballs, but Mexican tv is way cheaper than tv in the US or UK. You aren't even going to see HBO level money for a fight the whole country saw down there. Same thing happened with Pacquiao. Sixty million people would tune into his fights and then he'd get one or two million dollars from the stations. It adds up when you sell the fight in enough markets, and there is interest world wide but it's like a lot of small trickles rather than the big stream which is pay per view. It's sort of like how boxers can get endorsements but it's not going to be as much as their purses from a fight.
He caannot replicate what Floyd PPVs, it must be marketed well, something like 24/7. If it was Lemieux yeah, it could do well.
Yeah me too,as a Boxer he was awesome and always seemed to be on the wrong end of close fights,I can't remember how many times he was robbed and he always took it honourably but now it's like he won't let Canelo be like he was but in doing so he's making his no 1 star look like a turnip.
It won't be Lemieux unless Lemieux is paid to lose,Canelos gonna have two easy tune ups at 160 which to be honest I don't mind if it's with a view to facing Golovkin?
Yeah I was an Oscar fanboy too, until I met that fool. He signed a glove for me, and I couldn't get a picture because everyone bombarded him, so the card started up again, as he was going to sit down, I was like "Oscar can I get a picture with you real quick?" And he was yeah, after the fights and he pointed to his eye and said "I'll remember you!" I was like "cool!" The fights were over and I was walking towards him and he ran out of the sports arena like he did with Trinidad.. I was like "This little ****er!" My brother in law and homie was laughing. That fool pranced out of there..
Canelo isn't the "face of boxing" with numbers like that. Sorry. Seems people aren't buying into the hype and are seeing Canelo for the ducking fraud he is.
Oh sure you're right, mane and 65 bucks for entertainment on a Saturday night is within the budget. But hanging out on these boards and hearing about how everybody else in the world pays less (or nothing) for the same **** added to the fact that it was a gimme. A mismatch. Add that to the **** undercard and I start to take it as an insult. **** em'. At this point, I'm hoping they all go broke, the whole structure collapses and some new paradigm emerges.
Yep. Enjoy it while it lasts, British folk. I feel like $20 is a fair price to pay for a good main event. You have to stack the card or have a can't-miss fight to get $50 out of me.
Honestly, I'm not too sold on Canelo yet. He keeps saying he fears noone and yet his actions say otherwise; and eventually over time boxing fans will catch on to this. The more he keeps taking on soft touches and no real challenges, the more his fanbase will wither away and the worse his ppv numbers will perform. At some point, Golden Boy is gonna to have to deliver a good fight to the fans by matching Canelo with a legit good opponent cuz otherwise, their bank account is gonna get hit hard. Is Oscar gonna keep giving Canelo soft opponents continuously at the expense of Golden Boy's bank account? I don't think so. So if Oscar and Canelo think they can get away of cheating the fans of good fights by fighting pushovers and make a lucrative career out of it, they're mistaken. Also I take issue with Oscar's bull**** lies. He reiterates that Liam Smith is best in the 154lb division which is false. Does he really think boxing fans are that stupid? The paltry Canelo-Smith ppv numbers are a reflection that the public are not buying into his BS. Golden Boy promotions, shame on you for putting out a crappy product. It's kinda like a restaurant in a way, you put out a crappy product, people won't like the food and won't come back again and then those customers will go to another franchise (ggg) who deliver a better product.
