Hennessy Sports [company promoting Fury]: 'It is with the deepest regret that we have to announce that the World Heavyweight Championship rematch between Tyson Fury and Wladimir Klitschko, scheduled to take place on the 29th October 2016 at the Manchester Arena, will not be going ahead. Tyson has, this week, been declared medically unfit to fight. Medical specialists have advised that the condition is too severe to allow him to participate in the rematch and that he will require treatment before going back into the ring. Tyson will now immediately undergo the treatment he needs to make a full recovery. We and Tyson wish to express our sincerest apologies to all those concerned with the event and all the boxing fans who had been looking forward to the rematch. Tyson is understandably devastated by the development. We will be making a further statement in due course. Until then, we ask that Tyson and his family be given the privacy and the space he needs to recover during this difficult time.'
"Medical specialists have advised that the condition is too severe to allow him to participate in the rematch and that he will require treatment before going back into the ring. Tyson will now immediately undergo the treatment he needs to make a full recovery." Is it just me or this doesn't sound like an injury at all. Sounds more like a mental condition, depression, substance abuse?
Very strange that they wouldn't mention what kind of injury it is - they seemed to go out of their way to not mention it.
No joke, read it as 'mentally unfit'. That's why I posted it. Thought it added something new to the debate. Yep, sounds like BS. Isn't it normal practice to specify the injury?
Yes. I can't remember a fighter ever being pulled out and they don't mention the injury. If not the specifics (a muscle tear etc) then at least say something like "he hurt his hand". There have been rumours that Tyson is bipolar and this statement reads like it's a non-physical issue.
What's the problem here? Everyone knows he has mental problems. Nothing new here. No reason to cancel the bout. Of course, he's totally out of shape, fat as a pig, love handles like John Goodman, that MAY have something to do with this announcement.
If they can toss Oliver McCall into a ring with Lennox Lewis in the condition he was in, they can toss fatso into a ring.
