I think Camacho's speed would bother Sal. He's also the bigger man and won't be overpowered. I think Camacho by decision. Having said that we didn't see Sanchez against a huge variety of opponents, maybe he surprises somewhat.
Given the Mexico/Puerto Rico rivalry I think this would be a more intense fight than it would look given their styles...Camacho @ 130 was phenomenal with ATG speed, and surprising power, Sanchez, a seeming unflappable technician who was very capable of making adjustments during the coarse of a hard fight...It would be close, but I think Sanchez would lose the early rounds, but begin to gauge the speed, and make body punching his priority down the stretch of the fight, and would finish stronger to take a close decision in a 15 round fight.
I'd go with Camacho also. Sanchez, brilliant as he was, was never comfortable having to lead. And it sure as Hell would be hard for him to lead dealing with speed he's never seen before. Size is also a factor, which someone else mentioned. Camacho was bigger than Sanchez, and physically I'd actually say he was stronger than Sal. Would be difficult for Sanchez to impose himself. Camacho by decision is my choice. Sanchez simply didn't do anything at 130, so we dunno how effective he'd have been at the weight.
I'll take Sanchez. I don't really buy the Camacho hype. I feel like he would've done a lot better in his big fights at 140 and 147 if he were really an unstoppable force at 130. Pac, Marquez, DLH, Whitaker, Mayweather, Mosley, etc. all pulled the jump up way more smoothly.
Intriguing matchup. On the surface, it's a bit like Barrera/Hamed. But, Camacho had better defense than Hamed. Sanchez never fought at 130 but was a very strong featherweight so he should be able to move up to 130 comfortably. He's not a big puncher, though, and Camacho was pretty physically strong at 130, so I see prime Camacho gliding around, moving in and out, holding when necessary and frustrating him for a UD.
Camacho was way past his best in his big fights at 140 and 147. If you weren't around when Camacho was a 21 yr old lightening quick 130 pound champ, you missed out. He was a great blend of speed and power.
I pick Camacho, but more because he's more proven at 130 and presumably stronger to go along with the bothersome speed. Tough combination of things to overcome. That said, I wouldn't completely discount Sanchez here. Everyone talks about how speed would bother Sanchez and all that, but let's not forget that Camacho built a reputation off brawler types who offered little of the kind of ring craft Sanchez would display, not to mention Camacho's own relative unfamiliarity with counterpunchers. This isn't an easy fight for him either. Of course this assumes a lot about Sanchez at 130. Never know.
I agree wholeheartedly with this post. Much as I couldn't stand Camacho and his BS, his skill and handspeed at 130 was off the charts. As xplosive said, Sanchez did not like to lead, which is why he had problems with the boxer-type like Patrick Ford, Antonio Becerra, Pat Cowdell and Ruben Castillo. Sanchez, one of the all-time great counter-punchers, really shone against the sluggers. And a 130 lb. prime Camacho would not be slugging. A very comfortable 15 round decision for Camacho.
Have mad respect for Salvador, but we never truly seen him at 130, and Hector, as we know, was truly amazing at that weight. Camacho by ud.
