Some people seem so focused on speed. And actually pick fights based on speed. That's BS. Plenty of fast, fast, fast guys have not lived up to their abilities. Zab Judah, Terry Norris, Amir Khan, etc.

Its blown way out of control. Look at some guys who were pretty slow like Foreman, Monzon, Golovkin. All had savage power and great timing.

Morales, Barrera, Marquez neither was really that fast. But they could all punch and had good timing.

Marvin Hagler wasn't that fast, but could bang. James Toney wasn't that fast, but could bang and had timing.

I don't get the speed thing. It helps, but it's not nearly as important as power and timing.

You're right timing is important and PBF had some of the best timing of all time. He killed people with it. With that said power is overrated and can be neutralized in various different ways. Give me timing over power anyday.

Zab was actually faster than Mayweather. Noticeably so actually, but after the first couple rounds Mayweather was able to completely neutralize any speed advantage that Zab had.

I agree which is why that fight is an underrated win for PBF. Zab actually had the ability to beat PBF to the punch and counter him. Zab was really a bad match up for PBF.

Yes, but Mayweather's timing was excellent. Zab was fast, but not a skilled fighter at all.

Speed is not everything . Power is not everything . Neither 1 guarantees you a victory .

Boxing is more mental than anything .

No. POWER is the most over-stated attribute, followed by speed. Timing trumps both... but footwork is the king of all requisite skills. It's a pretty good rule of thumb here - people who focus purely on power are casuals. If you look back through the history of boxing, fighters whose primary attribute is power have shorter primes than boxers who are more skilled. A fighter only needs enough power (and strength) to deter an opponent as long as they have the feet to control distance. As soon as renowned punchers are up against fighters who control the range and take the fight into the second half of a bout, then they usually run out of ideas. As I say... power is so overrated. Good to have, not the ace in the pack though.

Power and chin are critical. So important that we have 17 weight classes to try and minimize the impact of power.

Exactly.... weight limits negate the impact of power.

I couldn't agree more. Footwork is one of the most underrated things in boxing.
