Burns v Kiryl Relikh - Trained by Hatton, what's his chance this weekend?

I dont know anything about this guy burns is fighting this friday. He is trained by ricky hatton, has a record of 21-0 19KOs, hatton seem confident of an upset. Obviously he hasn't fought at the level burns has been operating at, but burns isnt a spring chicken anymore and Relikh is a young hungry unbeaten fighter who has a great record on paper.

Can he pull off an upset?

sure none of the fans would mind burns being wrestled fouled and mauled all night long

 

Sky have embarrassingly compiled a list of three weight world champions from SFW to LWW comparing Burns to Mayweather, ODLH, JCC and Camacho.

 

Yeah, I read that. Cringeworthy...

 

I mean Ricky seems like a perfectly nice bloke who after some early setbacks went on to massively surpass everyone's expectations - a bit like Crolla - but his career from 135 onwards is a testament to the power of promoters to manufacture a career.

 

Relish is a very hard puncher and will have all the physical attributes to beat Ricky, although I think Ricky out thinks and out speeds him, otherwise it's a very long night

 

i bet Relish is relishing the chance to beat a fighter who is in the same echelons as Floyd , oscher , Camacho , Chavez
I mean that is unbelievable truly , looks like eddie kept his word to burns and made it pay both moneywise and status wise to leave the cesspit he left

Yeah, I give him every credit for making the most of his talent and coming back from a broken jaw to regain a version of a world title but he's limited in terms of ability. Got a hunch he may lose at the weekend.

 

He may well do. It depends on the level of his opponent really. Burns clearly isn't a world class LWW and will lose the first time he faces someone who is. Luckily for him 140 isn't as deep as it was a few years ago.

Again, I don't resent him for making the most of what has come his way but he's definitely the most fortuitous three weight world champion I can think of.

 

Ricky Burns will win and win well I believe

 

I watched a few of Relikh's fight's on youtube last night (there's a few via hatton promotion's channel).

Clearly hit's hard, but he doesn't have great speed and the fight's I saw he got hit cleanly a lot when throwing shot's - It's not like he's fighting top 50 opponent's either, take a look at his record. He also has a tendency to throw the same shot 2 or 3 times in close, a lot of them are thudding rather then having snap in them, then he get's countered as he leaves himself open.

My first impressions were he doesn't look like he is particularly skilled either.

He reminds me a bit of Spike O'Sullivan, heavy hands but doesn't seem to have the speed to go with it.

He does look to have the physical attributes as Billy said and Ricky really isn't a LWW although he may of settled at the weight a little better now, as long as Ricky doesn't brawl with him on the ropes in the early rounds or get sloppy, I would expect him to win (quite) comfortably.

I guess there's questions marks purely as Relikh is a bit of an unknown, similar to Zlaticanin when Burns fought him.

 

Yes you have to mark Relikh down as an unknown quantity think the difference was with Zlaticanin he is a southpaw and his angles really gave Burns trouble.He looks like he really struggles with lefty's and the lack of southpaw opponents in his career backs it up.

How he only won on a SD decision that night as well tells you Relikh is going to have to really try and jump on Burns.He has to stop Burns to win but I don't see that happening,be a brave call to back Relikh on what I have seen online.

 

That's a good point Makingweight, didn't factor in the southpaw part and it's very true Ricky looks to really struggle with them.

For me Relikh looks like from the footage I've seen the LWW equivalent of Gary O'Sullivan.

 

Guys with records like this are hard to gauge. I assumed Barroso was a bum and then he came over to KO Kevin Mitchell (albeit an end of life one). Hopefully it's at least a competitive fight
