Should GGG offer 50/50 to Jacobs to get the fight made?

This is the most talked about fight in boxing today.. with how big the fan bases are on both sides, I'd anticipate 1.5 to 2 million easy.

That's why the 10 million offer isn't a bad deal.. 10 mill guarentee plus PPV upside? Make the damn deal

 

If that happened, at 2mill buys it would generate 140mill. Give HBO their half, there's 70 mill left. So 10 to 3G, 60 to Alvarez. Yeah, that'll fly....

 

So he brings a lot to the party then. Fighting a nobody like Smith on his name alone brings in 300k. Add GGG to the equation and he gains over a million more buys.

Now if it was a 12 guarantee with a percentage of PPV then sure, GGG would be mad not to take it but to accept a flat fee? He'd have to had lost his mind to let Oscar and Saul steal all that cash from him. It'd be as ridiculous as if Pac took that cheque for 40m instead of getting what he was worth.

GGG needs Canelo, there's no doubt about that but if Alvarez wants those serious numbers then he needs the Kazakh too. And if he wins like you think he will, well he's about to start posting Floyd numbers against anyone from there on out.

 

HBO takes 7.5% of PPV's thats it.

 

Where'd that number come from? from what i thought, it was at least 45 to 50%, with the promoters getting the rest. Not doubting, just hadn't seen that

I'm not going to discuss Floyd/pac splits or flat fees because that's irrelevant to this discussion. Canelo will most likely get a 25 million guarentee plus upside for the ppv which is good because he's the bigger ppv draw and money maker, hands down. The deal presented to GGG is the same type of deal that Holyfield got to fight Tyson. Holyfield brought a lot to the table too, but he didn't complain or try to renegotiate a bigger %.. That's what GGG wants to do and his fans, the ones who have no say are the ones arguing that it's a bad deal.

If the ppv is a success like I predict GGG will earn close to 20 mill in total, now he's got his camp to take care of, but even though, his purse will still be about 3x more than he's ever gotten for a single fight. He'd have to be an idiot to not jump on that deal.

Interesting, I would've only guessed about 1 million PPV buys, hope you are right though as that is what boxing needs.

As I've said before, I think GGG should probably take 10 million, especially if it has a PPV upside (although other sources say a flat fee?). I also think Canelo should be willing to consider offering something like a 70/30 split in his favour to get the fight done.

The winner will be a massive star and command plenty of $$$ for future fights (Canelo has a decent fan base already but beating GGG would definitely elevate his status), there's no reason not to make the fight.

 

It was my understanding that the 10-12m was a flat offer with no offer or a percentage of PPV sales. Would you agree that such an offer would be farcical?

You don't offer 50/50 when a purse bid is an option. Jacobs isn't getting close to 2 million if it goes to a purse bid. This is basic economics.

 

A flat fee offer isn't going to make it happen. Oscar is bluffing on that. It will be a 10 million offer with ppv upside. Canelo will get 25 mill plus upside... That's what I think is going to happen as far as the negotiations go.
