The historical significance for the winner of Kovalev vs Ward.

Would it be better than any win Spinks, or Foster defeated at light heavyweight?

You could argue yes. We have a special fight here. Two undefeated champions, each in their prime with confirmed top 5 pound for pound status meeting each other.

This type of fight doesn't happen offer, at least in the upper weights.

It should have been Kovalev v Stevenson for the undisputed title.Ward is only ranked number 5 in the current Ring ratings .WTF has he done at light heavyweight?

    ps it's OFTEN ,not OFFER

A much, much bigger deal if Ward wins than if Kovalev wins.

I disagree. I think Kovalev beating Ward would catapult his statue.

it's a big fight and one i've been looking forward to. however, i can't help but feel that it's not near as big of a fight as it could/should be. kovalev should have already fought stevenson and ward should have been more active in the past few years. so historically not as big as it could be but hey at least we're getting it.

Extremely limited until we know how the history plays itself out. In legacy terms it unfortunately means most of all a definitive answer to who is the #1 contender to Stevenson's title.

Stevenson has promotional issues preventing a fight with Kovalev. Stevenson only fought once in 2016, with no scheduled fights on the horizon.

It's nothing much historically. I don't see what the fuss about Ward is. He's a competent boxer, a boring one, he's the Virgil Hill of this era , and that's maybe unfair to Hill who was at least active. The hype fighters get these days is ridiculous.
Would be a good win for Ward, an okay win for Kovalev.

I need an asprin after reading this. Ward is proven to be an outstanding boxer. Unproven fighters like GGG are hyped.

Actually no , it was Kovalev who had promotional issues and promoter issues , as HBO and Kathy pulled him out of the purse bids.

Showtime and Haymon had no issues putting Stevenson forward for the fight. Are you ever right about anything?

He was one of the best looking SMWs of all time imo. Delivered a chopping inside hook effect not seen since Joe Louis.

Ward hasn't done anything noteworthy in a long time, is completely unaccomplished as a light heavy, and doesn't look as good at the weight. Kovalev, on the other hand, has been one of the most dominant light heavies of the past 30 years. If Ward beats Kovalev, he's undeniably top 50 all time.

He's so intelligent, canny, and versatile. Excellent timing, underrated speed and toughness...he's the real deal (or at least was at 168).

Is Stevenson willing to fight on HBO? Stevenson has pretty much been in-active in 2016 and his title defense this year in his lone fight was a joke.

Stevenson and his promoter want this fight on Showtime. Now do you see the promotional issues here?

    HBO vs Showtime.

Since Stevenson is aging, and Kovalev is his biggest purse offer by far. He might as well take the fight on HBO. But he has not done this...kovalev has plenty of other options.

Now that you know the reasons why we have not seen this fight.
