12 rounds at 147. Would Ross be able to break the distance on Forrest and hurt him? Would Forrest be able to control distance and pace and get a decision. I'm pretty sure that Forrest KO'ing Ross is out of the question. Thoughts?
I think most people won't like it but it would be a close (bad) fight. Ross is a tiny welterweight, a very slight 5'7. Forrest is 6'0 with a 6" reach advantage. On the other hand Ross is very very clever at avoiding incoming. So you might end up with a very bad, very absurd fight where this giant (for Forrest is a middleweight in Barney's era, I think) is boxing a terribly nervous fight against this tiny man. I'll bet on Forrest to swallow his pride and win a boring decision.
Ross was no puncher so he isn't hurting Forrest significantly imo,and with Forrest's height, he may find it difficult to out box him this is a pretty even fight imo ,though Ross was the greater fighter.
Possibly ,I think is says more about the difficulties of a small light hitting welter, facing a tall welter who could hit ,I'd say the problems would be the same in any era.
Forrest by decision in a competitive fight. By no means has Forrest a chance to knock him out.Barney is way too slick and clever for that.Barney would make Forrest silly at times but he would not be able to connect too much with Forrest height and reach.
Not really. It just says that an absolutely tiny welterweight from that era would be at an even bigger disadvantage now, given the advances in shedding weight and the advent of the 24hr weigh in. It's far more like it to match Ross with modern lightweights and light-welterweights to get an even match. Even then i'm not sure what opinions on a boxing forum are going to tell you about the respective eras, really.
