woah this obsession with weight is still going on. Its not natural for people to be too big, it ruins their cardiovascular system because their hearts don't benefit from being bigger, it kills them. Sometimes I wonder if I am arguing with a bunch of renegade refugees from a defunct failed Fat Club
And besides the heavyweights, todays fighters are being trained to drain 15-20 lbs of weight just for the weigh in.
That's not the same as training down in weight. The weight drain today last for a few hours then they rehydrate back up 15-20 lbs. They aren't fighting dehydrated. Also this is a thread about heavyweights, don't know why you are bringing up anything else.
first rule of Fat Club is, dont talk about your fat as if is a good thing. Its not, you are losing it to get fitter and better remember. U arent going to become HW champ of the world becos you are fat.
My rule of thumb on height and reach in boxing. This isn't an exact science and arm length really matters for reach, and finger length or broad shoulders, in general, do not. This is an attempt to say who has the string distance advantage for headshots. AKA does size play a role? For every inch taller, add .5 inches of reach. Reason why, as you punch upward you lose distance. The maximum distance is at shoulder level. For every inch more in traditional reach, add a full inch. Example #1. Fighter A is 6'5" with an 80" reach. Fighter B is a 6-foot man with a 75" reach. Add + 2.5 for the height advantage, and 5" for the reach, giving fighter A 7.5" reach advantage on the outside for fighter A. So you see if you're short with limited reach, you're going to need power, speed, and durability to offset a much bigger man who also has skills. If the bigger man also has power, speed, and durability, the smaller man is in trouble. If you look at Lewis, Bowe, and the Klitschko's, they only lost one decision in their prime. That's it.
http://www.academia.edu/4064241/Black_Males_and_Testosterone_Evolution_and_Perspectives Blacks has 21% higher testosterone, according to the article testosterone is linked to violence. Or in this case a brawler Some who isn't afraid to mix it up. Plus higher levels of T is linked to size and strength.
Some of the Mesomorphic fighters muscle comes not from training but due to a gene which suppresses myostatin.
Mendoza, made this comment: "So how come we don't see cruiserweights come up to beat them?" I believe the reason is cos there is no money in the cruiser's. Think of this the best HW's in history were in the cruiser range or just above it. How many great fighters have we missed since the advent of the SHW's. Cruiser's get fewer opportunities to ply their trade so they arent a factor, right now there is abeast of a cruiser Murat Gussiev from Russia who blasted out Jordan Shimmmell in one rd with a devastating hook and he is only 22, he has a very capable trainer in Abel Sanchez, who also trains GGG.
Because there are natural 200 lbs fighters fighting in the lhw division because that's how it's done these days. The cruiser division also takes up people who would otherwise be normal sized heavies for the 80s
