Some people in this thread have clearly forgotten how good Hopkins is on the inside. Even if Golovkin can cut the ring off on such a slick mover like Hopkins, there is no guarantee he can deal with Hopkins inside game. Hopkins is just the more complete fighter and able to fight effectively at different ranges. Even when he stood toe to toe with Tito in their fight he was the better fighter at mid range and close range, able to slip shots inside and then counter with sharp combo's. Watch how Hopkins broke Glen Johnson down, how he out brawled Echols etc, Hopkins is more than just a slick mover. He can rough up Golovkin on the inside, smother him and take away his power and even if he can't bigger men than Golovkin haven't been able to stop him, unlikely Golovkin can. Golovkin will need to work hard to find Hopkins, look how hard he had to chase Brook, he was leaving himself wide open as he tried to cut off the ring. He'd be countered silly on the way in and when he does get in close he'll get smothered and mauled, even if he is better inside he won't be totally dominant inside like he is with most opponents. Hopkins eats aggressive fighters alive, Golovkin is at a huge style disadvantage here.
Gennady can fight with different strategies; if he feels he's outboxed on the outside, he can close the distance and force a brawl. Hopkins was unable to change strategies vs Taylor. He failed and was thrown out of his division.
A bloated, 37 years old Calzone fighting out of his weight class gave chase to 43 years old Hopkins around the ring for 12 rds. And all Popkins could do was milking a low blow and lose a decision. Once Hopkins' code is broken, he has no plan B.
If you don't want losing close decisions, bring your own judges to the fight! Popkins is great at shaking his ass around the ring and lose close decisions; Gennady just knocks you TFO. Popkins needed Hoya to earn 10 mill; Gennady got 5 against a British welter at home, and has already declined 10 mill vs Alvarez. wham bam thank you ma'am.
you need to compare like for like, 40 year old 3g with 40 year old hop,. so this post of yours is so far a massive fail, but you can try again in 6 years. best of luck when it comes round, eh?
*hat tip* This was a good thread with good discussion, and I am taking my leave now. I reckon both cases have been put forward well, and at the end of the day, tis just opinions.
Christ alot of people here make u want to believe Hopkins is like the second coming of Christ on earth. Give me a break here. Great fighter but come on some of these posts are from fantasy fu#king island
'90's B Hop for me, easily. Monster may not be the right word but he was ruthless, and way too slick, it would be a painful 12 rounds for Gennady If GGG were to pull something special over the next few years maybe we could revisit this question
No, i actually don't. .29 years old Hopkins could do nothing vs Secundo Mercado. Except pick himself up from the floor, twice, and labor to a draw. .34 year old Hopkins was reduced to faking a shoulder injury in order to avoid a loss to Allen. Mercado and Allen are fighters Golovkin would eat alive inside 6 , without losing a rd in the process, much less getting floored by them. And i'm not even talking about getting soundly beaten by an one-armed Roy Jones at 28.
yes you do. Everyone on this forum does it as best they can on this forum if they want their opinion to hold validity. Why then in THIS SINGLE example do you think you can be different to the whole population of ESB? explain why please. good luck in 6 years time when u can compare like 4 like. yeh thats truely one post of yours I cant wait to read.
