Is there a UK boxer fighting right now that can become an ATG?

    The last great was Lennox Lewis. I don't think Calzaghe can be considered an all time great. Well, certainly not top 100 as his resume is full of cans and garbage disposal men.

    I think Frampton has a chance at the Hall of fame but he won't become an ATG.

    Most of the UK's historical boxers are not ATG's. We have two top tier greats in Fitzsimmons and Wilde but the rest are merely Hall of fame level. I think Ted Kid Lewis is considered a great but the rest like Buchanan, Welsh, Lynch, Driscoll and Berg are HOF level.

    Who can become great?

    Who will enter the hall of fame?

    I saw a kid last night, Ryan Burnett he reminded me of Frampton, he may go far.

    Frampton is a quality operator. I think he could maybe reach hof level.

    The most important factor is to be a black African American

    That's the main key to being atg so there isn't much chance imo.

    Best not fighting the best at the right time?

    People are just pessimistic until it happens.

    Joshua right now looks AT LEAST as good as lewis did at the same stage, now he may not go on to have the career lewis had, but maybe he will?

    Who could have said carl froch would have the career he did when he was almost 30 fighting the likes of Robin Reid etc.

    British people are just sceptical pessimists by nature and don't tend to back their own fighters.

    As a outsider looking at the British scene they have a great crop of fighters I'm sure at least one or two will go on to be greats.

    People will slaughter me, but Haye.

    Undisputed CW champ, best ever IMO after Holyfield.

    Imagine if in the next 18 months he unified the HW world titles. Unlikely yes, but point is he can become an ATG. You have to be extremely anti-Haye if you argue against a CW unified and HW unified world champion is not an ATG.

    Looking at who does or who may hold the belts in the next 18 months it is doable. The biggest thing against him is time. It is unlikely he could get it unified in 18 months.....3 years though? Possible. Will his abilities slide significantly in 3 years? Well speed and reflexes will slide, and that is a major part of his game, how much will be a different question.

    Heavyweights seem to maturing later nowadays. Haye, who was 36 a few days ago, can no longer be seen as an old heavyweight as he may have 20 years ago, but actually one in his prime.

    I never really thought about it like that but you are right that Haye has the potential to be a unified CW and HW champion which IMO would definitely be HOF worthy but probably not ATG worthy IMO.

    Hayes incredible success in boxing often gets overlooked because of the Wlad fight and the toe saga which followed.

    A great fighter has to have multiple great wins though. ATG's are generally judged on who they beat and when they beat them. Haye hasn't beat a great fighter. I doubt Haye will be considered a great if he some how manages to unify the heavyweight division. It's one of the worst era's in heavyweight boxing history.
