Why does a career need to be limited to just one focal point?

What is SRL's signature win tho? You could start a +10 page debate on that one.

After getting off topic with the mandatory debates regarding Montreal Duran, should or could SRL have boxed against Duran, did Duran need a crap and why the win does or doesn't mean jack, would 1.5lbs have made a difference for Tommy, the customary Hagler opinions and endless Terry Norris meanderings it might hit 50.

For awesome action and entertainment not to mention a rousing comeback it may be, but did Lopez ever reach the heights required to be a signature win?

Great thread and hard to pinpoint. I totally agree some can have a few.

It doesn't at all; but then it's not a signature win.

I have to disagree with you on Monzon sal, that second Valdez fight was a true epic test for Carlos. Here you had a guy at the end of his career, 4 years older than his opponent, ...a motivated opponent, wishing to avenge that previous loss, getting decked, cut, and bouncing up like a spring to persevere and win over 15 gruelling rounds...a signature fight if there ever was one, and a perfect swan song to a great career.

Lewis has both Tyson and Holyfield and Tyson has Spinks. Plenty gave Spinks a chance and it was a massive event.

Tyson was addicted to Anti-Depressants, Alchohol, Cannabis & Cocaine by the time Lewis agreed to fight him. Holyfield was unable to fight more than one minute of each round, by the time he fought Lewis, and Holyfield was ROBBED of his titles in their rematch.

I'm not sure they have one. They have so many epic wins it would be impossible to chose.

My argument is that a signature means is the guest thing you think of when I mention a fighter (or at least in the 1st line of the obit). For Chavez I don't think you'd lead with the Taylor or Rosario wins; you'd probably mention 86-0 first. Archie Moore sane thing, all time knockout leader would be the first thing you would mention.

But if I brought up max schmeling and asked you too sum up his career how long until we mentioned the joe louis win. It wood be the first item on the list probably. Same with buster douglas (Tokyo Douglas). Corrie sanders has Wlad. It's a singular achievement.

I think Vitali's win over Peter, the reigning WBC champ and a guy still pretty universally feared, after 4 years on the shelf was a pretty good signature win.

Heard somewhere he was also living in the bottom of a lake. Think it was from a Tyson fan.

When they fought Tyson was rated the 3rd best Heavyweight on the planet. Lewis was 8-5 to 2-1 fave depending where you were from. Every non hardcore boxing fan i knew were backing Tyson and the vast majority of the general public were too. Lewis was actually older than Tyson and the general public knew both of them had seen better days. It was Lewis next to last ever fight. Rest assured the general public and lower level fan saw it as a signature win.

For me it might actually be Ruddock. He had two very impressive showings against Tyson the year previous and Lewis came along and totally blew him away.
