While khan is the bigger more faster of the two, Whitaker is the more complete fighter with the better chin. Khan would use his speed to his advantage to try to offset sweet pea and will have his moments, but will miss and be off balanced most of the time while getting countered by Straight jabs and left hands. Whitaker lacked power at 140, but could sting you a little bit. I'd go with Sweet pea in a 8-4, 7-5 types UD.
Prime Whitaker from his undisputed reign at Lightweight to McGuirt fight absolutely toys with Amir. Amir has the same pattern of doing the same 3 punch combination and circling away. Pernell is a master counter puncher and would notice this right away. Pernell had deceptive power in that weight range and I wouldn't be surprised at a knockout, especially with Amir's chin. We've seen him shatter Cuban glass in a fight he was losing before his bout with DLH, and Amir has some of the finest China in the land. A nasty knockout like that is highly possible.
I agree but then again I see Khan out working Whitaker like ODLH did. Pernell was defense but never a counter puncher. He would never throw shots in between his weaves like a Tyson or Mayweather would. Khan has that in his favor that if you are not proactively punching back at him he would work from the outside all night. I can see Khan UDing Pernell on this one. This content is protected
Whittaker had a nasty streak and would work khan out after a couple of rounds, I actually believe a KO is most likely as Khan would run out of options fast and would end up trying to come forward fast and reckless then plant and throw, Whittaker might not even lose a rnd leading up to the KO ?
Khan stylistically can be very frustrating for other pure boxers . It would be a competitive fight but not a close fight at all . Hurtado managed to win a few rnds , im pretty sure Khan can as well . Unfortunately I just cant envision a scenario when Khan prevails against someone like Sweet Pea . Whitaker's versatility/slickness and high output would just be too much .
De Whit is too silky and refined for amir, who will have bursts of success due to his lightning speed and (onmly now) developing maturity, but Peaman wins on all cards, narrowly.
Are we talking about the same whittaker who was P4P no.1 fighter at one point and ring magazine fighter of the year, the unified lineal champ? I know styles make fight but nothing Khan has done is remotely close to de la hoya or felix trinadad achievements, let alone Pernell's.
