He needs to start making fights his getting on in age and if he keeps stalling fights out tryna get the perfect deal he will go his whole career without one Marquee fight. In my opinion he should of taken the Canelo, someone offers me 10 mil to beat up someone I have been chasing for more than a year I'm taking it. After I dispatch of him, I'll dictate the negotiations in the rematch, Canelo is young he can wait all day whereas GGG is not. Now we got this situation with Jacobs where his asking for a bigger split just like GGG is with Canelo but GGG and his team are not having it. If you want Canelo to do it with you start off by doing it with Jacobs, smash him and you have a good name on your resume. I don't know if it's GGG or his team but they don't seem as confident of there chances in negotiations coz they don't make as much concessions any more. I remember when GGG offered to fight Barker in the UK for free. Just get these guys in the ring once you beat them you will take their fans and become a star that's all I'm saying I understand his taken a risk with his health and career so he shouldn't be paid peanuts but 10 mil is not peanuts I know that much.
Last I saw Jacobs' trainer said he needs more time before he's ready to fight in Dec, there's not an awful lot K2 can do about that. As for their actual discussions, I don't really know what went down once they WBA rejected Jacobs' requested split but what he holds isn't a proper world title so he must have known he wasn't to get a huge share in this fight.
I still staying hopeful for Canelo - GGG, it's still a year away so I'm not surprised that K2 didn't accept the initial 10 million offer. Hopefully they'll make the concessions necessary to make the fight.
The guys at 175 - Stevenson excepted - are all pretty willing which obviously helps. If you look at the guy he had coming up - Ward - and compare him with the guy Golovkin has coming up -Canelo - there's a world of difference. I think the reluctance to face him for anything less than huge money has been contagious at 160. The rest of the division has essentially agreed to fix the price of a defence against him.
I tend to agree with the OP. Golovkin needs to stop arsing around and fight four times a year. The big fights will come on their own. But all this pus sy footing around when GGG is already 65 in boxing years needs to stop. I'd rather see him have one good fight, one average fight and two cans a year than these guys stringing him along for an average fight and a good fight a year. Not only would he make more money fighting more often, but the pressure would be on the others to explain why they are ducking. Sometimes the fans don't mind a guy smashing a can if he's fighting often enough and defending mandos.
His team has a lot to do with this. There's a lot of people who get their cut and now that they've come this far, they're not going to settle for less than they feel their fighter deserves. The fighter is not the only one here that's affected by the amount of the purse.
he beat the tar out of pascal and pascal was like "lets do it again"..... these guys will have you believe that kovalev is just "fortunate" to fight in a division with "willing" guys.....if it were only that simple
hbo has ALOT to do with this as well.....they've been trying to cultivate and push ggg as a star....and they've paid him pretty well for some fights that they wouldn't approve for any other fighter.... hbo is trying to hard and trying to cram canelo/golovkin down our throats that they let Kellerman badger canelo about it on tv.....I understand wanting to set up a big fight....that's why hbo paid ward for brand ...because it sets up a big one..... when they talk about the brook fight its "oh how brave of brook"..."this was the best ggg could do on short notice"......but did they ever ask ggg about ward at 168? now they told ward theyd sign him if he moved up.....they paid him for a sparring session against brand because ward knew what was up.....ward basically said "you are going to pay me for this tuneup if you want me to fight kovalev"....they'll never badger ggg about going up and facing top level comp...but they'll badger canelo and put the onus on him in the ring hbo has loeffler feeling like ggg is a superstar in boxing...hes a star....but he isn't a superstar....he might be selling out 16k arenas...but them gate numbers aren't anything special when it gets counted up
I've been saying this for awhile at some point in your career you will say enough is enough and do what you have to do to get the fight that you want. Every fighter at some point who's worth a damn has had to do this. What he should have done last year was accept Canelo's offer of the catch weight beat his ass and then you call the shots and get paid, it's really that simple. GGG for whatever reason seems to think this doesn't apply to him. He really wasted his prime already and is only going to decline. He will have to look back at his career at some point and he will say what if.
Because Kova isn't a diva like GGG is. Kova is cut from a different cloth he's a guy who will take on all comers and take pleasure in proving he's the better man, he lives for that.
hbo has him too gassed up...they've been paying him good money for nothing....telling him how great he is....they've approved fights for him they wouldn't for anyone else....he thinks hes the biggest star in boxing
