Precisely how I imagine this. Lennox became a more complete fighter under Emmanuel Steward's tutelage. Even the pre Kronk Lewis would have had a puncher's chance, though.
Bowe was an underachiever regardless, he touched greatness in his first match up with Holyfield but really, what else did he do ??? He blatently dodged Lewis and fought two set ups which should never have been sanctioned and when he did chose to fight Holyfield again he lost and his career never regained momentum, the guy was potentially great but his ducking of Lewis greatly effected his overall standing. I'm not saying that Lewis would definitely have beaten him in fact Bowe was arguably better around that period but neither he nor his management never wanted any part of the Brit, otherwise the fight would have happened.
Because Lewis , King and Maloney were blackmailing him from within the WBC offices. Fact Lewis wanted none of it. Fact
Lewis would have knocked Slow Bowe silly just like he did the Olympics. Bowe's face was a magnet for punches and his scumbag manager Rock Newman admitted in an interview when questioned about the fight never happening that he "had his fighter's interest in mind" AKA he knew Lewis would destroy Bowe.
Lewis knew he wouldn't have an anti American Olympic ref to protect him a second time against Bowe . That's why he bottled it. If MaCall turned him over easily , imagine what Bowe woulda done to him.
Yup. That's what I remember. After they got back to the hotel, Rock Newman got to work washing the brown out of Bowe's underwear. Lewis would have lumped him up, and he knew it.
Lennox Lewis wins. Lewis had no problem bouncing right hands off Bowe's head in the Olympics. Lewis performed better against most of their common opponents. Guys like Golota and Biggs and even Tubbs outjabbed Bowe and gave him problems. Lewis just hammered Golota and Biggs like he did Bowe. They had agreed to fight. Bowe and Lewis confronted each other at ringside after the first Bowe-Holyfield fight. Lewis stood his ground and Bowe was the one who walked away. Bowe was the one who dumped his belt rather than fight Lewis. Lewis beat Bowe in the amateurs. Lewis would've beaten Bowe at any time in the pros. Lewis would beat Bowe now. Lewis was better than Bowe.
Riddick Bowe wins. Bowe won more of the amateur fight than than Lewis did before he fell victim to corruption just like Roy Jones did. Bowe performed better against the best guy they both faced. Lewis looked poor against a faded Holyfield . He couldn't even get a KD. Bowe knocked a much better Evander OUT. Lewis was knocked out by MaCall. Bowe was better than MaCall. Lewis was knocked out by Rahman. Bowe was better than Rahman. Lewis used fall over his own feet. Bowe's balance and foot work was 10 times superior. Lewis had no jab. Bowe had a great jab. Lewis muttered the same sentence over and over cos he was a nervous wreck when they met ringside . Bowe oozed confidence . Lewis did not. Lewis fought Tony Tucker instead of Bowe. Bowe beats Lewis becaue Bowe looked better , beat better boxers and didn't get turned over by contenders. Dubblechin is a proven liar who was taken to school with his pants down in the Corrie Sanders thread by me
What Corrie Sanders thread are you referring to? What did I lie about? Bowe lost to Lewis when they fought. Bowe backed out of the Lewis fight and vacated his title to fight Michael Dokes and Ferguson instead of Lewis. (Two complete embarrassments.) And he was eviscerated for doing so. It was a cowardly act then, and it remains so. (Like Canelo-Golovkin.) Lewis had no reason to fear Bowe. He'd already faced him. He'd already beaten him. He'd agreed to face him again. Bowe was the one who had lost to Lewis. Bowe was the one who backed out of their pro meeting. Bowe had his career ruined by Andrew Golota ... who was ordinary himself. Bowe's whole rep is based on the Holyfield fights (who stylistically he matched up well with) ... just like Norton's whole rep is based on the Ali fights (who stylistically he happened to match up with). Bowe didn't beat anyone else of note. (Actually, that comparison might be an insult to Norton. He beat better fighters than Bowe did.) Bowe was Brooklyn's version of Tyson Fury.
And thats why your opinion on this subject belongs in the gutter. Nobody uses amateur losses against a fighter unless they have a serious negative filled agenda against that fighter in question. It might hold a milligram of weight to your argument had it been a decisive clear cut win , but it was a pure case of corruption as everybody knows, therefor exposes your monumental bias against Bowe. Its not biased in any way to acknowledge Bowe as the superior boxer between 91-94. They weren't even close. One was was looking like an ATG , beating another undefeated prime ATG , in one of the greatest bouts of all time. The other was looking very flawed against journeymen and got reduced to a crumpled heap at contender level. That was the difference between them. Only fanboyism will drive somebody to pick the guy who didn't fully develop till 5 years later.
When Bowe had to fight Big, Bad Lewis he got all woozy with fear and dropped his belt in the trash can instead. Rock Newman had to stroke Bowe's hand saying "there, there" and made him a sweet cup of milky tea to calm him down. True story.
