I dont think they fight that similar Froch also doesnt have the power to knock a guy cold Ward at 175 cant bully guys physically like he could at 168 and isnt as fast or sharp at 175, some one like that Cuban guy with less than 20 fights landed some shots he shouldnt have Ward hasnt faced a real live body since Dawson in 2011, I dont think he operates on the level he was at vs Froch anymore. I kind of think Kovalev is going to stop Ward, Ward may be ahead when it happens but kovalev hits so hard and is good at setting up his shots. I cant see Ward avoiding everything all night and Kovalev doesnt need much or to be all that clean to change a fight
its a pity Froch never fancied a rematch with Ward as you could say the Froch that came back to batter Bute and get revenge over Kessler was arguably a better Froch than when he lost to Ward,I liked Frochs honesty after the Ward fight though,he said his hands normally hurt after a fight but with Ward he couldn't get his shots off. It all depends if Ward is still as good as when he was in the super six,I've not seen it in any of his "tune ups"although I'm not sure if he was boxing to the type of opposition which is what many have said about Kovalevs win over Chilemba. Whatever if Ward beats Kovalev fair n square with no favourable judging then for me he takes the best pound for pound guy of his generation alongside Floyd Mayweather.
It was 10-2 Ward, and I cannot fathom anymore than 2 rounds to Froch. Ward had great defence, catching shots with his arms and gloves which needs to be paid attention to. Ward is going to beat Kovalev 9-3 or 8-4 at least. I would be extremely impressed if Kovalev was to get more than 4 rounds.
What happened to Wards dirty tactics,I've not seen those in his recent fights,I feel he'll have to pull all those out on the night as like you say I can't see Ward avoiding everything all night,can his body and chin stand up to Kovalevs power,if he can nullify his power by just taking glancing blows and blocking with his gloves like he does its gonna be hard for Kovalev.
The ward that fougt Froch would beat Kovalev but after 2-3 of doing almost nothing you gotta wonder if Ward still has it to compete at level .
He really roughed up froch, if you watch it with the English commentary they were very suprised how he physically dominated froch he made froch uncomfortable. I don't think he can do that to sergey I'm not saying he won't win it's a real 50-50 but his game plan can't be the same as froch fight froch dosent have as high an output as kovalev and fights on back foot more.
Ward has been too inactive. He wasted a lot of time when he should have been fighting. When Froch fought him he (Froch) was 34 and Ward was 27? Not that big a difference and Ward was more active. As you age you must stay active. Not ruling Ward out but he is up against a different fighter in Kovalev. He does not have the power to keep Kovalev off him. His movement looks slower and reflexes also. I think Ward will make it to the 8th round and then take a mat nap.
We don't usually share the same opinion but I'll agree, Froch and Kovalev fight nothing alike. That said, I'm not confident in either man winning this fight but Kovalev is the favorite to me.
How can you say that Kovalev is a better fighter than Froch based on the limited opposition that Kovalev has faced so far? Kovalev's pre-BHOP fights were against mediocre opponents like Agnew and Pascal. Kovalev has never been in the ring with anyone with the talent of a Jermain Taylor or even a Dirrell. True, Froch struggled with both, and I personally had Froch losing against Dirrell, but at least we have a clear and precise understanding of Froch's ability and limitations based on his high level of opposition. To date, the highest level of competition Kovalev has faced is an ancient Bernard Hopkins. The Hopkins fight did show that Kovalev was better prepared than other BHOP victims, but still, BHOP was 50 years old, and smaller than Kovalev and Ward. Kovalev's advantage is power, and that's about it. He has a good but limited jab, no head movement, and average footwork. Although he possesses power, it isn't the type of devastating power (like WIlder's) that can stop Ward. I predict that because Kovalev has such a limited jab that Ward will neutralize it, and because Ward has a large variety of jabs, he will be highly effective out-jabbing Kovalev. Kovalev is slow. He is as slow as Abraham and as basic as Golovkin. Ward by TKO, Round 11.
