I don't care about it anymore. If he wants to go ahead and fight sub100 opponents or even fans, so be it. If he wants to try and put his sanity and life on the line and actually try to fight some of the top20 Cruisers, then fine...

Roy hasn't beaten anyone decent since people feared he died in the Lebedev fight 5½ years ago. And the best "win" after that was a blatant gift to boot.
Roy is gone, and a shell carrying his name remains. Let him pay off his debts (if he still has any) by fighting the who's who in the boxing clubscene and we shouldn't keep paying attention to it.

 

Roy on his worst night back at 168 pounds would still toy and completely manhandle Lebedev with ease .

It's funny, when he was in his prime I wouldn't say he hated boxing but it was pretty clear that he didn't love it and did it only for the money

 

I've always felt that he's doing all of his subconsciously out of disdain for his father. having been controlled by him for the first 3/4 of his career and life, he finally feels free and probably wants to punish Sr. by being lesser than great. Boxing is to RJJ, what heroin is to an addict who had a lousy childhood and a certain amount of self-hate brought on by an abusive parent. It sounds rough, but I think this is about more than simply loving boxing.

He went down like he had been shot against Enzo. Everyone thought that would be the end...

Enzo with all due respect is the kind of guy he would have stopped in 2 rounds in his prime.

In fairness, he was putting on a boxing clinic vs Enzo in the early rounds before being stopped. I'm not exactly clamouring for him to continue, but I do think he is seeking the validation of actually winning a legit world title at this age. He may still have one more great fight in him, and part of his motivation (or lack thereof in the Enzo fight) seems to be fighting for and possibly winning a world title, being able to hoist that title in the air and having his validation. After the Enzo fight, he stated that part of the problem was that he was not granted a title shot, and suggested that he agreed to fight Enzo for a world title.

It seems that if he is going to be able to fight for a World Title, it may have to be in Russia again. If going after a Cruiserweight Title is what he seeks, there are some options out there, but it may not be easy for him to get a title shot. I'd say he deserves a title shot, but it's got to be a fight that makes sense, and matchmaking is really important here for Roy. I don't think anyone can deny that we still saw flashes of top level skill early on vs Enzo, but I think stamina could become a problem for Roy as it may become more an more difficult for Roy to maintain his concentration over 12 rounds.

As a fan, I don't want to see Roy get hurt, but he seems to bounce back very quickly from his KO losses, and he doesn't really take much punishment in the ring because he still has speed. His stoppage losses don't seem to do as much damage to him as some stoppages has done to other fighters. Roy seems to still have the energy that's needed to be motivated as a fighter, and clearly has a passion for the sport. He's trying to defy Father time. We know why a lot of fans don't want to see him fight anymore. I'm conflicted, because on the one hand I want him to achieve his dream of winning a legit world title at his advanced age, on the other hand I don't want to see him get hurt. Part of it is that we never know which version of Roy will show up. Like I said there have been times in recent years where I thought Roy still had it, other times he was lackluster (even in victory).

He may still think he has one more great fight in him, but it's gotta be thought through, and he's gotta really take a look at the various crusierweight title holders and see if he can get a title shot.

 

Roy's punch resistance is completely gone. He cannot win anything meaningful anymore. He will get caught and KTFO at some point.

 

Someone needs to pull the curtain down before it is too late. Assuming it isn't already too late.
