Man I think Ogogo got away with it there, if Craig Cunningham can break your eye socket then O'Sullivan wouldn't have shattered his face. Anyway best of luck to Ogogo, I think he should move on to a different profession maybe take up commentating or something because he's body and mental state seems too fragile to achieve anything great in boxing in the future. At least he has a bronze medal that's a great achievement to have.
I can safely assume you're not a fighter. I don't think I've ever gone into a fight without something being not quite right. Any fighter who goes into a fight admitting that he's injured needs his head checking.
After one fight I had double vision for a year. I couldn't play pool for ages, I'd see two balls lol. But you shouldn't mess with your eyes. As someone else mentioned he seems too fragile for the sport. Its a lot like when Nigel walker the sprinter played for Wales. Yeah he was a great athlete, but as soon as anyone touched him he got knocked out
As a side issue, this is similar injury to Brook's vs GGG. Makes his performance all the more impressive. He stayed five rounds with a huge puncher from two weight divisions above, four of them with a broken eye socket despite his vision and balance being affected in a similar way to Ogogo, who struggled to deal with a man with three knock outs to his name.
Looks like a bad injury. I'm not a great fan of Ogogo but looking back at the fight he was missing wildly and with his amateur pedigree I would have expected better. The eye socket was definitely causing vision issues. I wish him a speedy recovery.
If his eye damage is severe as it sounds he should certainly think long and hard about continuing. Atlanta 1996 David Reid a fighter with a droopy left eyelid caused by injury 1995 Pan American games a firework pro career because of eye damage that was always going to hinder longevity.
Exactly, it's not as if pulling out or delaying would have meant anything. This wasn't a big fight or even a once in a lifetime title shot. I'm still thinking it's all rumours right now. I just don't think Ogogo is very good and he was exposed and this is the cover story.
I agree with this. He and his trainer only report issues after round 1. Meaning the injury happened in fight. If AO was any good he would have beaten the likes of S with a sparring injury...sorry its f**** true
His demeanor and arrogance before the fight doesn't say to me something was troubling him and would it not have been disclosed in the pre fight medical? This has got Pacquiao all over it! haha As someone said this wasn't a huge fight for a big title, if he was injured both he and his trainer should have pulled him out in the week. I think Ogogo didn't like the going getting a bit tough and wanted out.
I'm not buying this "Ogogo was injured before the fight" line. There was no bruising, swelling or damage around the eye, I've seen a few pre fight interviews and he looked fine. If he was injured and they knew it then they are all completely irresponsible. Also the BBBofC should get involved, they should be asking questions, the pre fight medical needs looking at, if a fighter can pass a medical with a fractured eye socket then serious questions need answering. They should all be fined at the very least, I'd even think about withholding his purse, people bought tickets, some may have gambled and they said they knew and hid a fractured eye socket.
Ogogo has a Glass Jaw too. He just doesn't have the heart or the chin for boxing. Maybe he can go into commentating?
